I just received my new CAC Lockback from Larry over at CAC Custom Knives in Wake Forest, NC and I am very impressed. The fit and finish is superb and the material choice is solid. Larry uses D2 Tool Steel hardened and double-tempered to 58-59 HRC. Stainless steel hardware is used throughout. The back lock mechanism and back section are D2 as well. I am attaching pics, but the level of detail is impressive. The pivot end of the frame is octagonal and flush with the scales as is the custom CAC shield, same goes for the “wagon wheel” pivot washers, which add a tasteful, eye pleasing moment. I think the most impressive example of detail is how the liner tooling and the tooling on the back piece aligns perfectly. The clip, which is stamped CAC, is very thoughtful with the screw offset matching the angle of the frame. I only see two very minor issues, the first is the presence of a very faint scratch on the clip where it looks like the torque driver may have slipped and left a scratch. The second is in the same area where one of the screws holding the clip is a bit larger than all of the other screws. All in all, this is a wonderful example of a boutique knife maker putting out a quality product and at a very competitive price point. The only change I would make is the addition of a thumb screw for easier opening and I would loose the lanyard hole and section all together. It’s a lovely knife and I would choose one of Larry’s knives over any of the more pricey, better known offerings from the major makers. Well done Larry!

I've bought a couple of knives from Larry and they're very well done. Always fun to see what he comes up with.
