And another one bites the dust.......
1830's Missouri War Hawk - The 19" hickory handle has a smoke tan buckskin beaded drop and grip. The bead work is again by my life partner Linda - who got through this one even while fighting with some major back and arthritis problems. The handle is decorated with brass tacks, glass trade beads, and hawk bells.
The handforged, wrapped construction head is a product of Gib's forge - it is made of 1050 with a weeping heart cutout and grooved poll. The head is 6 3/4" long with a 3 3/4" wide cutting edge.

Chuck, I just can't tell you how much I enjoy your creations.

One of my favorite quaint country phrases is:
you can't live in the past but the past can live in you.

You prove that with every one of these gems you finish. I am sad about the fact that so many Americans have lost their roots, culture and heritage. So many of the people who live in the mountains I come from have no interest in how life was even 50 years ago.

Many of the Native Americans I know cannot speak their native language and wear costumes made in Korea when they preform for the tourists.

You help restore a little of that void and if you have nothing else to your credit in 50 years, you will be remembered for the artifacts that you leave behind.

That is awsome! It realy reaches out and grabs you, I love looking at your and Gibs work.

WOW! that's a Native American exclamation, too! Ask me, I'll tell ya! Beautiful work. Don says it very well. Ol' Gib really deserves a big pat on the back, too!

Fantastic job all around. Looks like another winner for sure.

Linda , Make Chuck get you some riasins and soak them in gin for week. Eat 5 or six of the raisins several times per day and it will help your hands. Or just skip the middle man and eat a few raisins and chase em with gin :). Bourbon would be even better.

sweet piece you guys..:D and what don says too, for sure..

because of a car accident we got into a few years ago my wife busted up some bones in her right hand and the wrist bone . and now it swells up alot she's found that taking extra vitamin E helps a lot. try having her do that chuck, it can't hurt at the very least.

Thankee all!
As for the medical advice - we've been dealing with it for over twenty years so I can guarantee we've tried and continue to try whatever may help - still thanks for the thoughts. Unfortunately in Linda's case it's a matter of degenerative disc disease so it's mainly a matter of taking time off between the flareups and not over doing it - still life gets in the way of even the best of the advice.
Of course if I wasn't such a slave driver.... :(

I've often wondered about that whipping noise in the background. I have the degenerative disc disease also. Steroids seem to fix me up but boy they have some bad side effects. (Fatness and superhuman strength)

Yep and if you did that would have been followed by the sound of the 12 ga taking my head off..... :D

Actually I am happy to say that Linda is not only my wife and partner but also my best friend. I consider myself VERY lucky to have her by my side for the last 23 years and hopefully for many more. :) :p :)

Mark - steroids - yep murder on the rest of the body and not only that you have to have insurance or lots of money these days - both of which are not currently in the cards.

I Hear you Chuck
degenerative disc disease, nerve impingement, bulged disk, bone spurs, and for the hell of it joints that just like to let me know,, they are still there..
upper back and lower back isn't getting old a blast.. :(

I had more back than brains years ago..
getting slammed doing time for our
US of A didn't help either, it's all showing up now..
my dad is 71 and he's in better shape than I am. and I'm glad it's that way too..for him..

Well with a bum knee, three discs gone in my low back, two in my neck (this is the one that causes the big problems - when you wake up unable to move from the neck down things get worrisome....), bursitis in both shoulders, tendonitis in both elbows, and arthritis in my right thumb/wrist - yes I am a mess.
I've found that those neoprene supports really work well - keep thinking maybe I should get me a wet suit for my whole body!

opps I forgot about the bursitis
it's not a big problem right now unless
I do more repetitive things than I should.
Chuck are your arms getting numb setting around and while sleeping?

the warmth of the neoprene will help. and you could always float around
somewhere too if you had a mind too. :)

tendonitis,, never played the game  :)

Chuck are your arms getting numb setting around and while sleeping?
Yep - sometimes takes me as much as wo hours just to get things working so that I can hold onto my tools.

Repetitive stress is the big bugaboo for me, if I spend too much time doing the same things such as tooling I really pay for it. The tendonitis is a matter of repetitive stress, especially tooling, holding the hammer and tools in the same postion does a number on my shoulders and elbows especially. I try to have more than one project going so that I can break up the type of work - do tooling for a while, sew for a while, cut out, dye, etc.

Then again my wright wrist and elbow problems are also due in part to shooting big bore hand guns for years - 300 grin 45's at 12-1300 FPS do a number on you.

Damn fine job!! I wish my wife made sheaths...Fat chance on that... but she supports me in every way.

Check your email Chuck. More sheath help needed ...but I am almost where the questions will be less frequent.
:D

Thanks for all the good comments, thy really make a fellow feel appreciated.
From all the descriptions of everyones aches and pains I wonder how any one gets anything done. I guess that I am in purty good shape for the shape that I am in, overweight, CRS & so forth. I sometimes think all I have going is a good right arm. Gib

Hey Gib, Maybe its time to move to a warmer climate? You and Chuck make a great team and I hope the right arm holds up!

Again thanks to all - Ray - me I'm looking to go back north! Too hot for too long here.....
