Maybe it's just me, but I can't seem to do anything with CADstd after playing with it for a while. I'm going to try Googles Sketchup and see how it goes.

If you know an engineering student or possibly any full time student they may be eligible to buy AutoCad LT. It is basically the full 2D version with some limitations that won't matter to most users. It's been a few years but I picked it up for $80.
