Calendar of W&SS Gatherings and Events

All W&SS members are welcome to join us in an undeveloped, but easy to reach, camping area above Visalia. I plan to arrive Thursday afternoon but even if you can't land until Sat., you'll still have fun! Directions are in a previous post in this sticky calendar thread.

We hope to do a hike and there's an area nearby where participants did some target shooting last time. Maybe even a mountain bike ride?

If you have any items that you want to use for exchange, we'll do a little informal "trade blanket". Perhaps an opportunity to send off a duplicate item for something you don't have?

We had a lot of fun last time and hope you will consider attending!

Sorry about the schedule change, but several prior participants and eager potential participants had conflicts with the late September dates. As a result, we have moved to the extended weekend of October 23-25. I'll probably show up Thurs. night or early Fri.

Nights may be a tad cool at 4,000 ft. but the days ought be be very pleasant. Hope to see you all there!

This will be a desert gathering over Martin Luther King's birthday weekend. There will be great hiking, as well as desert skills practice.

The location is still being arranged but is expected to be off of Route S2 in Anza-Borrego State Park. We will camp near the Carrizo Valley, below the Terra Blanca Mountains. We are trying to arrange a location accessible to passenger vehicles and with at least primitive toilet facilities. Details to follow in a few weeks.

Those who plan to attend are asked to bring some firewood, even if it's just a couple bundles of the supermarket stuff. You will also need to bring your own water. And be prepared to rig your tent for wind. It doesn't always come up but when it does, it can blow hard.

We're going back to the same great camp spot suggested by lambertiana and successfully used for the last two gatherings. Directions can be found above, under the Bush Bash I posts.

This is the same weekend we got together this Spring and it worked well.

There are a bunch of photos in several threads about the first two gatherings, if you'd like to get a look at the area.

I'd like to do something down here in FL while the weather is cool; but, there's only like 2 of us down here. Maybe I can drive up to a SE US gathering.
 
W&SS themed Hammer-in in Visalia, CA. Knifemakers Mark Wohlwend, Ray Laconico, and Cristof Harper ( Koyote) will give demonstrations. We would like to do this in Jan or Feb. We will set a date shortly, and I am sure that it will be on a Sat. We do ask that you RSVP do to limited space. I can set up a grill for lunch and if anyone wants to take this as a demo on food prep, let us know. If some want to bring stuff to demo, that would be great also. Just let us know.

My own thoughts would be it would be great if we could tie this in with the Bush Bash, but I wouldn't want to step on toes.

July 30, 31 and August 1st Perry NY
Buffalo airport about an hour and 15 minutes away, Rochester airport about 45 minutes away
I think there is somewhere around 100 acres, lots of primitive camping, pond, fields, woods,
Knife laws are no autos, if not a NY resident NO HAND GUNS

Paul Tsujimoto (toooj) from Ka-bar will be there and hopefully bring a special guest.

We cancelled this owing to lack of interest.

The next CA gathering will be at the end of April in Sequoia Ntl Forest, past Visalia. See above.

JK Handmade Knives Annual Get Together, Saturday, May 15th, in Mokena Illinois.Going to be doing a little grinding, and hopefully a few demonstrations on woods skills. I will be providing burgers and hot dogs for lunch.
 
JK Handmade Knives Annual Get Together

This is held at my shop in Mokena Illinois, about 25 miles SW of Chicago. The date is Saturday, May 15th. Everyone who comes gets a "tin knife" of their own design, which I will be making that day.
