Four days ago, I got an email from calicojack about a For Sale knife proclaiming, "I;ll take it!" (his semicolon, not mine)

Emailed payment details and waited. And waited. And waited.

Sent a couple more queries, but he never responded. Life does get in the way sometimes. If something *is* unexpectedly wrong on his end, I understand and wish him well.

However, there is also the possibility that his email was some sort of joke. calicojack has never actually posted on Bladeforums. This guy's email is greatrealestate@rivnet.net FWIW

The Search function suggests that there are two similar member names: calicojack and calico jack. Could be the same guy since calico jack (with the space) has exactly one post.

calicojack's delay cost me one sale, but I'm not that worried about it. The knife will sell. Just irritating to have to fool with this kind of behavior if it was intentional.

When the words "I'll take it" are spoken there is an obligation, expectation, and a duty to follow through. If something unforseen makes the purchase impossible, an immediate E-mail with an explanation is absolutely necessary and required.

Shiit happens, and it has happened to some of us that because of some unexpected event we cannot consumate the deal. I would find it strange that the seller would not understand and be forgiving if something unplanned happened. BUT silence and failure to maintain communication after one utters "I'll take it" is very poor "business" and horrible BFC ettquite.

When it costs the seller his sale, an apology is just not enough if you as the buyer dropped the ball. The appropriate punishment is to lose one of those very things you dropped; a BALL!!!

We all know that good communication clears up almost everything in this regard. I hope all is well with him. Hopefully he will get in touch with you a.s.a.p. to explain things. At the very least.

Guyon: Sorry for the loss of the sale but I know you will find another buyer with your sweet collection. Good luck. :)

Just an addendum: I never heard from calicojack again. Hope he's okay.
