Call fom Yangdu -

I know I sounded upbeat after seeing him today, but it was indeed an emergency admission. He was in 9+ level ( 1 to 10, 10 being the worst ) excruciating pain, despite the morphine, vomiting, dehydrated to the point that on admission, a blood draw got 1/2 way through and flat stopped. He went from 125 lbs. on admission to 130 lbs. today just from rehydration.

Putting him on Dilaudid relieved the pain, cutting the morphine gradually stopped the nausea, and the pain specialist came by to discuss steps to see if the pain was from the tumor or another source. The tumor's remains about 5 CM ( 2" ) which it was a year ago. The main tumor itself has not gotten larger but is slowly invading other organs - sending out shoots/roots if I understand correctly.

There may be some options depending on where the pain is coming from. If damage to other organs can be managed, then the tumor, which has evidently been growing since 2001, could take another 4 years to do him in. If it's the other organs causing the pain, they may be able to isolate the nerves involved and deaden them, maybe, depending on what they find. Then again he could be dead in a week. Yangdu could go for some reason. No-one knows.

For someone in excruciating pain a few hours before, he was in remarkable spirits and obviously wanted to keep talking.

They have the school for the kami kids up and running in the last couple weeks. Bill is feeling like he did get some good done not only financially over there but , with the forum providing a spiritual haven and/or source of friendship for those who need or just want such a place. He anticipates it continuing, and we discussed him getting a laptop vs. wireless keyboard so he can write from his easychair.

The main thing is that he feels he's made his contribution and is content to stay or move on as whatever happens happens.

Pala is in New York at present, and will come to Reno when Bill is out of the hospital.

Yangdu was handling things. I'd say pretty well, considering. I hope the sense of sharing between Bill and me is also in effect with Yangdu. If it is, she will do well is my take.

It's been a 300 mile day and I'm wearing down. I'm going to post on the whatchamacallit thread to look over here for the longer version and then sign off.

Lets get that laptop thing going....
What can we do to help?

Yeah ... I'm having Crocodile Dundee flashbacks. "Knife? That's not a knife. THIS ... is a knife."

Seriously, my guess is he's visiting his daughter Chokpa and is in good hands.
