Asked the guy if he could look and make sure the blade was centered closed. He said no most Striders have issues even new and if I wanted a perfect knife not to order it. I said I thought they were a lot better now, he said he disagreed. Talked me out of ordering it.

Sounds a lot like the experience that JDavis had. You might want to call someone else.

No doubt it's the same place, maybe the same guy even and he wouldn't even look at a knife for me so he can keep them.

Yeah it sounds eerily similar to his story, I'd steer clear of that place. He actually left comments on that youtube video, so you can confirm for yourself if it's the same guy. His youtube name is tnkneil.

No it was not the same place. I didn't get into the new lock-up because he wouldn't even check to be sure the blade was centered closed. I was going to ask about the newer lock-up but since he blew me off....

Jill,

I would contact Strider directly and speak with Josh, Mick or Duane, I am sure they will help you out and get you what you want.

What I can't figure out is why that idiot would carry Strider knives and then tell everyone not to buy them. What kind of business plan is that?!

He didn't tell me not to buy it, he said when I asked him if he'd look at the knife I wanted and make sure the blade was centered, no they all have issues. If I want a perfect Chris Reeves type knife don't buy it. The best he'd do was to state if I ordered it got it wasn't happy send it back, I said I don't want to do that, then he said I shouldn't buy it. (so I guess he did tell me not to buy it in a round about way)

He's either the worst salesman ever or he was telling you not to buy it.

Maybe he figured he shouldn't be bothered checking knives and would just as soon have them returned, as to be troubled by such foolishness!

I don't know, really I've had people check out knives that cost less than 475 dollars before, to be sure I was shipped what I expected.

I was very taken aback by his attitude, though I figured he'd have been all over it to get me to buy a knife costing that much.

There's no excuse for that kind of attitude when someone has questions about a $475 item. And I'm also calling BS on the whole idea that every Strider is off center. I don't think that's the case. He's full of it.

I would call Strider and let them know what one of their dealers said. I've bought 3 striders since late march, All have been perfect, centered blades, new lock-up which is great(no bladeplay) what so ever, I wouldn't let one dealer discourage me from owning a strider, If he wouldn't look at your knife for you then that's bad business plenty of other dealers are more than happy to do that for you.

I agree. This is something I would want to know about if I was a production company. I'd stop that guy from selling my knives in a heartbeat if I heard things like this.

Oh I'll get one elsewhere, it's a rather highbrow place anyway that I called and I now think they just don't give a rats behind about being overly friendly.

When he started in about how if you go over them with a microscope you will find issues, and I hadn't even asked him nothing but about blade centering, I knew right then he was being a jerk.

I had the exact same thing, asked them to make sure it was centered. they called me and told me that it was not perfectly centered before they shipped it and asked if i still wanted it. I wasnt sure but said yes in the end and got the knife. The centering wasn't that bad but wasnt perfect. from what I hear most striders are not perfectly centered anyhow but i wanted mine to be so centered it myself which is so much easier than I thought. I'd suggest just going ahead and ordering the one you want and centering it yourself if you want to

This is a better situation than letting you buy the knife and then not caring about your satisfaction.
He doesn't care right from the start!
You can't say he doesn't give good customer service if he doesn't let you become a customer.
I've seen this as a business strategy before. Given a choice you sell to the person that you think is most likely to be happy with the product.
Sometimes it saves trouble to just say no to OCD.
That said, if I was Strider I'd be annoyed..

OCD or not if I drop nearly 5 bills on a knife I want the blade centered and the latest lock up. That was the extent of my concerns and since he had more than one listed for sale, I really thought they could at least look at it for me.

That dealer wasn't willing to provide you with that assurance and told you so.
It sounds a bit odd but there is a logic to it.

I think that is more than reasonable on your part; if you are paying gun money for a knife, you should get what you want.

best
