Called about getting new Strider

That dealer wasn't willing to provide you with that assurance and told you so.
It sounds a bit odd but there is a logic to it.

A logic that he couldn't be bothered. Being I've had New Graham gladly check out Spyderco's costing far less money, all I can say is fine I'll move on.

There are too many good dealers out there to spend your hard earned cash with , that are willing to go the extra mile for the customer, and not be rude to you, The dealers I buy striders from have always gone above and beyond for me, One dealer, even sends about $50.00 worth of free stuff when you purchase a strider from him. I have 2 I deal with exclusively both willing to check the knives out, and both go above and beyond to make the customer happy.

I agree with the majority here. That attitude is a surefire way not to sell items. Maybe he does want to keep them, maybe he just don't know what in the world he is talking about. Hard to say. I bought a black lego SMF in CPM-154 and asked if it was the newer lock up, blade centered, etc. via email. I recieved a reply, they checked the knife, the blade was indeed centered, the lock engaged early, and it had the new geometry on the interface. Happy camper was I.

I've never had a brand new strider that came "perfect". It's either centered but it has some marks on the blade or everything else is good but the blade is not centered. I use to always tell people that if you are one of those nit-pickers that put the knife under a microscope to examine every nanometer of the knife trying to find an imperfection... a strider is not for you.

It appears that there are some people who have had pretty good luck, but from what I've seen they usually come less than perfect brand new from strider. I think the guy over the phone just wanted to avoid a return. I once put a strider on the exchange and had a guy who was interested tell me that if he finds any imperfection on it he's gonna return it to me "on my dime". People like those you're better off not doing business with.

I just called another dealer and the man was happy to check it, said blade was perfect centered, lock up was new and perfect as well. They have the money now and the other guy doesn't, so who won? The dealer that could be bothered a few minutes or the one that wanted to be a jerk?

Oh I don't expect it to be 100% perfect in everyway, just new lockup and blade centered. All the microscope crap he came off with and he was upfront about I could return it, I was the one said no I don't want the hassle.

Striders are like emersons in a lot of ways , they will tell you , hey are knives may have some tool marks , there may be some imperfections, If you want a perfect knife look elsewhere, I'm sure the OP knows this, They do say however If you want the toughest knife available, that will do anything you want it to and then some then a strider is for you , If you want a perfect knife with no imperfections or tool marks, Strider is not the knife for you, Now all my Striders have been perfect in everyway, no tool marks no nothing, but what I wrote above, Came from Mick Strider himself I believe...

I know all about the deal with Strider's fit and finish. I like the looks of the SMF and wanted to try one. I am not going to return it if it's got a tool mark or two. But, I did want a blade that is centered, I've seen pently of pictures showing perfectly centered blades closed, I know they have a new lock up now, I wanted that. Nobody was saying anything more, but I believe that first dealer just jumped to conclusions and merely thought he was dealing with a nitpicker. The other guy was glad to check it out and answer my question on lockup. In other words he didn't jump to conclusions, answered what I asked him and did not assume anything more.

did you get the flamed Ti or stonewashed ? and did you get tiger stripes or stonewashed blade, also what color g-10?

It sounds like the dealer may not even have any in stock. I can't figure out why he'd have a problem with checking one out for you. Did he suggest another brand when he tried to talk you out of a Strider?

Jill- You found a Strider? The Tan/Brown is my favorite color.
Say bye-bye to yer Spydercos.
;)

Maybe the guy was just having a bad day. When dealing with the public, even the best upset people now and then.

He had them, the price doesn't even show if they don't. He mentioned Chris Reeve. I don't know what his problem was, doesn't matter now.

Can you please let us know what dealer it is so we can be sure to never buy from them?

I don't think that's allowed here, they aren't a paying dealer here. Besides they didn't rip me off or anything, the guy said to return it if I wasn't happy, maybe that's all he felt comfortable doing. The other place looked found a perfectly centered one, said the lock up was perfect and everything they have has newer lock up so that's all I wanted.
