called hog knife

While at a fleamarket , a older knife maker was telling me of a hog knife.
he told me that a friend would make them by putting a piece of cable on the blade edge and forge it to the blade and and then put a edge on it. he said the knife would do about 4 hogs, before he would have to sharpen it again.
anyone every hear of this or see one?
did not check to see what drugs he was taking.<grin>

Cable can make some nice knives,Depends on the cable. I like using cable damascus and it will hold a pretty good edge.The knife on the front page of my web site is made froma piece of 1-1/4" cable.
