Calling all Edge pro owners I have a question

It all comes down to practice and more practice. You will eventually learn what works for you, what does not work, and how to make it work. I was getting a wavy pattern o every blade I sharpened for a while until I realized that I was putting pressure on the stone. No pressure needed, let the stone glide over the blade and it will do all the work.

I also learned to sharpen at my kitchen sink. I fill the sink part way with cool water, put some soap in the water and put all of my stones in the sink. Rather than use the plastic bottle to rinse the stone while I am using it, I just turn on the faucet and rinse it into the sink. Less mess for me this way.

The last lesson I learned was to tell everybody in the entire house what knives have recently been sharpened so nobody gets hurt. Took my Pro system to my brother's house for Turkey day and forgot to tell my sister-in-law I sharpened a bunch of her knives while she was out visiting friends, she almost sliced through her wood cutting board!!

I use a landscape step (pressed concrete) and play sand to flatten my EP stones, works good. I can use the crushed sand for finer grit stones.
a little water mixed in helps make a good slurry.
I have to sets of stones for my EP.. 1 set for knives, where a little (stone) dishing is acceptable
and 1 set for hair cutting shears.. flat stones seem to produce better edges on these.

I put painters tape on the EP table with each knife I sharpen, works as well as taping the blade before sharpening to prevent scratches.
keeping your blades flat is just practice, I do blades from machete's to small pockets on mine, hand eye coordination is the key.
