Calling all jazz aficionados!

hey cosine(or any of you fellow forumites)..was just curious if you checked out Alfonso's website..and what your thoughts were. It's always nice to turn someone on to something they wind up liking, and in this case if I can get another interested in my friends work, then it's just that much sweeter. If it's not your cup of tea...I won't be offended either...just wondering what ya thought. Thanks

Yeah, I listened to some of your friend's music. It's pretty cool, but I was looking more to build up my jazz collection with old standards and classics. Thanks for pointing me to his site, though. I may end up with some of his music in a couple of years.

I'd take the Monk, but I'm a sucker for his work.

Still proud of the fact that Jon Hendricks was one of my profs in college. :D

Once upon a time I worked for a Jazz radio station http://www.jazzradio.net/index.php (way back when there was only an AM terrestrial & a cable FM channel available & we were in the back of what used to be an upholster's shop in Charlottenburg, Berlin) & I had to learn in a big hurry.
All of that above is dead on- good stuff- some faves of mine I have to mention:
Slim Gaillard- good stuff- the Verve Years is a good collection
Charlie Hunter Trio (or T.J. Kirk- same thing) Modern jazz/rock guitar
Django Reinhart/Hot Club- All Good...
Money Jungle (the album) Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus & Max Roach. Good stuff.
Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, etc- wonderful stuff- really soulful
Some of the Ornette Coleman, et al stuff is an aquired taste...
