Shout out if your from the KC area. Also, please post some of your favorite places to get knives.

For me, Cabellas is alright (been once) going to check out Odessy and this place near the KC Star called Cisco sometime soon but both are a ways away (im in northern Gladstone, a few blocks from the border back into KC)

Im a KC nut, Overland Park actually.

I don't buy any knives in town. On occasion I buy a SAK but even those I tend to buy online. I thought Odessy was shutdown anyway. Cabelas is awesome, but still abit limited in what I'm interested in, balisongs!

Good luck hunting, maybe we can hold a KC knife nut gathering sometime. :)

So what kind of blades do you have so far?

KC here as well.

Cabella's is a bit limited when it comes to knives, IMO. Odessy is still open, they've just moved to the corner of Blue Ridge and 40 highway (I think, it's been a while since I was there. They're about a mile from where they were.) There's small store in Mission called Ryuku and one in the Mission Mall. (check the yellow pages for knives.) All have brick-and-mortar prices, so expect to pay more than off the 'net.

A KC gathering sounds like an EXCELLENT idea. I was actually thinking of hosting something like this this summer, but any of the local Bali knuts (and other knife fiends) in the area

sounds good, i have a friend who doesn't post but is also into knives, though his highest quality knife is a mini ka-bar, sak fisherman, or shrade version of the buck 110. He was into the fun cool stuff (cheep throwers, chakrams (sp?), cheep machetes) but will probly be getting a MOD ladyhawk (he has too much money) He could probly come to a meet.

I would want a brick and mortar to feel knives, then buy online.

As for me, i have a ton of saks, leatherman micra (keychain edc), serbertool (school edc), calypso Jr. (edc), leek (usually sits around but sometimes gets carried), and a mini ka-bar. Edit, and I edc a dorcy 1xAAA on my keychain

I was born in Kansas City, MO and I graduated from Belton High School(17 miles South of K.C.). I currently live in the St. Louis area, but make it a habit of going back to K.C. a couple of times a year. My favorite place to get knives in the K.C. area would have to be Russ Andrews house in Sugar Creek, MO. :)

I found a place called Jerry's Nursery and Landscaping and at least a couple of years ago they had a near complete selection of Grans fors Bruks axes, if that may be of interest to any of you guys "up there," in KC. I am in Wichita.

Jerry's is at 5319 north 139th, KC Kansas. 721-1444. West of Cabelas about twenty minutes or so I think.

I don't live in the K.C. area but I have family there and show up several times a year. I'd certainly be willing to show up for a gathering if someone wanted to organize one .

I'm im KC - Independence actually. Cabela's is cool. The store that used to be at the Mission Center mall is now at Ward Parkway - or was earlier this year. I haven't been in a while. It's a cool shop. Pete's willing to be flexible on pricing if you know what you're looking at. He's got a lot more overhead than a internet store, but being in a mall he keeps stuff a list price for the Goons to buy.

Odyssey moved to Blue Ridge Blvd and 40 Highway. It's another list price leader and they have a bunch of really silly crap. Their commercials are priceless. A bunch of beer-gutted mullet-heads fondling Conan swords. My buddy christened it the "white trash armory".

Layton knives is up north, they sell mostly at shows but they'll sell out of their garage if you call ahead.

More info on this Cisco place would be cool. I've never heard of them.

Joe

I rarely go to the knife stores here in town. Mainly because my interst is balinsong and most of the stores just have crappy ones. Really its fine by me. Going into one of those stores in dangerous for you wallet anyway.

Well, with all these local members maybe would should have a get together sometime.

Lets see how many locals I count...hmmm...1...2..3...

Zerileous
Daniel Dorn
Grim/Don
VideoJoe
Balicat
MicMurry
Alius
Draxil

I count 8 that I know of right there. Maybe in the coming months, when it gets warmer and we are back into school completely(for us students) we can plan something.

I already know 4 people on that list, and would really enjoy getting to meet some more BF members.

Maybe a dinner or something...time to think about it I suppose. :)

I mentioned something to my wife about hosting a cookout/picnic at our house this summer after it gets warmer and she was all for it. My 7 year old son will be there, and for knife content, he's got his own machete...

So, yeah, we could all meet at my place and hangout for a while, drool over each other knives, play ping-pong or throw stars in the back yard, then my wife can grill (she loves to!) and we could rent a movie... The Big Brawl or Big Trouble in Little China...
If people just want to do a dinner, that's cool too.

sounds like alot of fun.

I went to odessy today, didnt like it much, the owners seemed a bit on the rude side and it didnt seem like that great of a place. There has to be a good shop somehwere around here.

**Bumping up this old thread**

I was doing some searching in the forum for knife stores in the KC area and found this old thread this morning. Any more KC area knuts? I'm south of Olathe and up for a blade gathering. We all could bring some wares to examine, sharpening stuff to help those others that need a little sharpening assistance, and food is a plus.

Anyway, here are four other areas I patrol for knives:

  • Mickey's Surplus Store 2601 Strong Ave Kansas City, KS 66106 9138311493 They have CRKT, some Spydercos, Vic, Buck, some Scharade. Plus they are an Army surplus, hardware, fishing type variety store. Not a bad place just to walk around.
  • Bossert's Military Surplus (816) 452-2002 434 E 32nd Ave, Kansas City, MO Smaller store, they have a few blades.
  • Family Center Farm & Home 808 Baptiste Drive Paola, Kansas 66071 913-294-4800 Nice hardware store. Caters to country folks such as myself and nice to have employees ask you if you need help and then they actually know what they are talking about.
  • Olathe Gun Shop 716-A Rogers Road Olathe, KS 66062 info@olathegunshop.com 913-782-6900 Benchmade, Surefire and shooting stuff.

I'm stuck between a few blades that I would get in the future, and just looking for some stores to handle them before purchasing. Heck if the local store isn't too much more (wishful thinking) I wouldn't mind supporting the local economy a bit.

Bumping up this thread again... Any interest in a gathering?

Another store just opened up...

Bass Pro Shops, 12051 Bass Pro Dr.,Olathe, KS 66061,Phone: (913) 254-5200 Just opened up less than 1/2 mile from my office. (Oh yes...). They have some Benchmades, Bryds, Spydercos on location. All their knives are serrated though. No plain edges.

I missed this thread when it first came up, but have since emailed Grim, and MicMurry. I think there's a BH who lives in Olathe who I've met at some shows in the past. I don't usually look at knives around here, as I get to visit A. G. Russell's in Arkansas when I visit my folks.

Hey, if you all want to schedule a get-together, let me know. I will subscribe to this thread, in case it gets bumped again.

We need to make this happen!

Maybe we can meet for dinner in a knife friendly environment. Is there such a thing? Perhaps we can meet at Hooters in any of the 3-4 locations.

We may have to do this thing!

My house is a bit torn up with remodeling projects, but maybe we could do a dinner someplace.

Or how about a picnic at one of the parks... We could reserve a shelter or something.

I'm up for it.

I like the idea of maybe meeting at a park. It is probably easier to bring a fist full of blades to a park, versus a restaurant. :) Also the benefit of a park, is that we could do "extended sharpness tests" on various felled woods and the such. We could practice fire making in the grills under the guise of a picnic.

The KC area is really limited on blade shops (that I have found) and if nothing else comes of this; at least we could see some blades in person that we have been reading about in the forums.

We could also bring some sharpening gear and help those fellow knuts that need a little assistance in building their sharpening skills.

Just a few pre-caffeinated random thoughts this morning.

If any of you want to test your flak jackets, we could do it at my house! :)

Actually, my 'hood is not bad, but it is lively and a little edgy, let's say. When I tell coworkers where I live the blood drains out of their faces and they get really concerned, but I have noticed that things are quite racially divided here in midtown, so I think they are making my neighborhood out to be a lot worse than it is. Still, the possibility of a drive-by isn't out of the question, so... ;)

I work at 3rd and Minnesota in KCK. Not the best area, either. We actually had a bullet hit our building, not a few feet above where our facilities manager was standing at the time. That's a little unsettling.

Let's keep this thread alive, and going 'til the weather warms up, just to make sure we don't forget our ideas. I'll bookmark it, and check in every once in a while. I may have to dig up MicMurry's email, and get him back here, as well.

So, where would we want to meet? English Landing, in Parkville, has some beautiful scenery, and is not hard to find. I'm open to any suggestions you all might have. Let's get our families out with us, as well. I might have more luck getting 'buy-in' from the wife, if it's a family thing. Otherwise she may just think we like to group knifesturbate, or something.:D

Maybe we need to post a link in the General forum, as well. Get some knife content in, to keep the MODs from moving it, though.:p

Daniel

Hey guys, it's been FOREVER!!! You moved to KC Chiro? Cool...I know we've B/S/T'd a few times here. I was just searching the boards for "913" looking for the new Benchmade Stryker and this thread popped up first because of Saunterer's phone number. ;) Love the avatar Danbo...hey DD bet your little one isn't so little anymore huh?
