Calling Kansas City knife nuts

Jackal, yep, I'm a faculty clinician at CCC now. Decided to pursue my true calling and sold my practice up in MI, so I packed up with a bunch of $$$ in hand and I've never been happier! :D

Just a reminder.....discuss the meeting only. Save the knife discussion for the Blade Discussion Forum and where to buy for TGB&U otherwise I will lock down this thread.

hey i am new to blade forum and i was wandering were i could get an otf knife near overland park any info would be great

What are type of blade are you looking for? There's always Bass Pro in Olathe, Cabelas near the race track and a couple of surplus stores around. It all depends on what you are looking for.

If we do get a meeting together, be sure to meet up to inspect some various blades.

And welcome to BF!

thanks i am actually looking for a front opening knife. bass pro is a pretty cool place i got a ka-bar from there recently

Reminder....see post 23. Discuss the meeting not the knives.

Hey folks,

Might I suggest a date to meet up? How about June 16th. That should give us all sufficient time to clear our schedules, and gather a nice crowd. I'll also go as far as to suggest a location. Is English Landing Park in Parkville okay? I'm sure most of you know where that is. They have a couple/3 pavilions that we could reserve. I'll see if I can check out the schedule of reservations. If the weather gets bad, The Power Plant is an awesome place to hang out, and their micro-brews are superb.

Missouri allows collecting of all things sharp and beautiful, so autos shouldn't be a problem, and I'd love to see what you all have.

I'd suggest getting subscribed to this thread, so you can see all updates.

Please feel free to offer suggestions.

Daniel

English Landing would be perfect, but I don't know if we can get a pavilion or not. I was just there on Sunday, and there was LOT'S of reservation slips hanging up. We may have to use one of the smaller one's or, just find a place out in the open (and away from the sheeple!):D

I would recommend traveling carefully, maybe with auto's and bali's locked in a truck, just in case.

I'm already subscribed and I'll mark my calendar when I get home! Thanks for kickstarting this!

That sounds great, but list me as tenative for now. The in-laws are coming to town on the 15th and I will probably not be able to get away. But I'm subscribed to this thread so if something changes....

Any type of agenda?

- Maybe everyone show off your sharpening skills or sharpening equipment? I know there are a lot of suggestions in the toolshed, but seeing it in person and helping someone in person is better. Show how to convex, use the Lansky or Sharpmaker.

- Anyone whittle? Might show off your whittlin' skills or give a tutorial.

- My main interest is in SAKs, so I could bring a dozen or 50 some odd models, couple of basic Spydies for any new folks that haven't handled one.

Just throwing out some random thoughts.

We may have to do the Power Plant thing... The park is closed indefinately due to cleanup from the flooding. Or we could delay until after the park opens...

I say we just leave the wife and kids behind, and meet up for a brew, or two. We can always hook up for a family gathering once the park is open again.

For the under-aged folks out there, the food is excellent, so don't feel left out because you can't try their micro-brews.

I guess we really do need an RSVP to get a head count for the gathering. We also need to decide on a time. I say go for mid afternoon, as there will be fewer sheeple to disaprove of our sharp things, and we can feel more free to converse as loudly as we want without bothering folks.

Pass this info on to all the local knife knuts. I'd like to think we could create a group similar to other 'knife clubs' out there.

Hey, I just found out that Benchmade will be at the Outlaw store off of NW 64th street on June 16. Maybe we could meet there, and then go to the Power Plant after we've browsed, and gotten our fill of free food, and second-hand cigar smoke.

FYI, Outlaw is a high end cigar store with a LARGE walk in Humidor room, plus a smoking room, and a large display case of high end knives. As a potential meeting place, it is right up there, with lots of food available in the area, and plenty of parking. It's right off of I-29 at NW 64th street, next to the Hen House grocery store.

Anyone out there?

Daniel

Okay, we're about a week away from this thing, and only 2 folks have come near to committing.

Hey, Grim/Don, at least the two of us can have a good time. So, would you rather meet at the Power Plant, or Johnny O'Quigley's? I like the Power Plant's brews, but if you wanted to be closer to The Outlaw for their thing, that's cool too.

If anyone else is still interested in this, please respond to this thread.

Daniel

Now that the cooler weather is settling in, just seeing if there is still an interest in a KC meeting.

I live near Hillsdale Lake and now that the summer time crowds aren't around anymore, how about a meet and greet, a practice some basic outdoor skills?

Also I recommended in a previous post:

Just seeing if there is still an interest.
