I'm sad it's come down to this, but after 2 weeks of searching I'm giving up on finding my EDC of the last 10 years, my trusty bronze Microtech Scarab. It irks me, because I'd put it through quite a bit and it was still solid. Locked up great, cut like a champ, opened pretty reliably. Each and every one of the scratches and dings and wear marks were badges of honor.

Now, of course, I have to find a new EDC. Decisions, decisions. Maybe I should go custom?

Requirements: No tanto blades, no serrations. I prefer one hand openers with deep pocket clips, mid sized. Typically smaller than a Large Sebenza.

I've been carrying a ZT0801 lately and I'm really enjoying it. It disappears in the pocket and has an extremely smooth flipper (if you are into that). Hopefully the scarab shows up for you though.

My condolences for your loss.

You should definitely go custom. Since you like autos, how about a Matt Diskin Fire? D/A (t-stud/hidden scale release), deep carry, 3.5 blade, 4ish ounces.

Sorry to hear! I recommend:

ZT 0200
BM Adamas
BM Ares
Para2
BM 300SN

Sorry to hear about your Scarab, hopefully it turns up for you.
I would say either go custom, or maybe mid-tech.
However, Spyderco and ZT offer some amazing knives with deep clips and one hand opening.
Spyderco Caly 3.5 in zdp and CF comes to mind.

It always sucks to lose a favorite knife. :( It may be too big for you, but I love the look/specs of the ZT 0561.

I've got 560s at the shop but it's a bit large for me. I do love Hinderer's designs though!

And the new black Southard is pretty sweet.

Benchmade Griptillian or Mini Griptillian, either one is perfect and will suit your needs:thumbup:

Thread may be closed, no further discussion needed.:D

I hope nobody shoots me for this, but how about a CRKT Foresight. Fits the bill. Great knife too!

You do that once you buy a new knife your scarab will magically appear, right? So it doesnt matter what you buy just buy anything so you can get your trusty EDC back :D

Other then that I say go custom and get it from Alan Davis or Elliot they have some absolutely stunning designs specially Elliot's recent work.

If only you had access to a large knife store where you could play with all sorts of knives at your leisure to find out which one you like best...

indeed! I feel like you are not so much asking for input as simply taunting the rest of us luckless souls!
Although I guess insofar as customs go you probably don't have all of the options directly at hand. What about that Russian family, the ones that make the ti hanled knives? Shigorov or something, those are supposed to be very nicely done.

My condolences to your fallen companion. I lost a dear friend too last year- an 8-yr old regular Sebbie. It was a sad day. But it sparked a search for a new edc. New to the stable is a Sebenza25 (far superior IMHO), a Brous Division acid wash , and the newest acquisition- a ZT0560BW. Enjoy the hunt.

Small Sebenza? :D Seriously though, the Small Insingo is my one-hander of choice for EDC...

But if the Sebbie ain't your thang, wrap yer mitts around a LionSteel SR-2... try the Sleipner steel! I think it would meet most of your requirements.

Good luck, Cap'n!

The new Benchmade 477 is coming out soon (3.5" Emissary).
The BM 581 with M390 is still around (it's slightly shorter than the Large Sebenza, but heavier).
The BM 890 Torrent is slightly smaller still (and is easily one of my favorite carry knives).

The ZT 0770 is coming out in CF soon.
I keep drooling over the ZT 0801 in stores and will own one soon.
The ZT 0566 is a great knife (if not a little bit heavy), especially if you de-assist it.

The Spyderco Paramilitary2 is always a winner (we should have a forum-PM2 some time)
As is the Spyderco Sage Series.
The Spyderco Southard is one I've yet to own, but probably will soon.

You owe it to yourself to give this one a try. It's pretty sweet, even in the regular format.

I laughed so loud, everyone turned around and stared at me like WTH is wrong with that doofus... :D
