Where are you guys getting those cool kydex pants with the vertical pouches?

Not intending to ruffel any feathers or dis your favorite new Busse but you opened the door for comments and I for one truly don't get it. I see lots of folks really getting into this blade but I don't see the draw to the ASH. I ordered a CG and already sold it. My friend on the other hand was very happy to get it for what I had in it! I'm not exactly sure where it fits in the stable. The blade is really deep and its a hoss of a knife but a FBM is more of a hoss and if you are gonna have 6 1/2" why not 10" and really get the work done quickly. It is too large and too fat to do any fine work and not nearly as much of a chopper as the larger Busse's, so what exactly does it excel at that would garner all this respect (other than the fact that its a finely made chunk o infi)? Why is it the favorite for so many folks? Is it merely because its the latest model with a huge very dedicated brand fanbase, are there real area's that this design really shines in and might just make it "the one" or is it "do I really need a reason and if I have to explain it you probably wouldnt understand anyway"??????

It's what we're all getting in the mail right now, and enjoying coming up with new uses for. :D

I just walked in the door and this was waiting for me. WOW!!

I love it because it's an anniversary model commemorating the original! I miss the straight handle stuff and this is an affordable "throw back"!!!

Right now I am stripping mine, I will post pics.
But I would like to know some hints on how to throw it ;)

I like mine because, well, I like it. It's my first Busse knife, probably not the last. It must be noted that mine is not a safe queen, it's a fair dinkum user. I use knives quite a bit around my property, and this one is doing it's job VERY well. I have some other larger knives, but this one does everything that they do, and sometimes better. I reckon it's the design, the angle of the blade against the handle, the deep flat grind, the .32" blade, the comfy handle, the great steel. All these factors contribute to a good all round work horse. For me anyway.

dialton: If I have to explain it to you... Just foolin man. :p Personally I think it is just a beast of a blade and thus somewhat of a novelty. And it allows many of us to experience the straight handle without the insane prices the classics command.

I know some hate it and prefer blades like the Ratweiler or SFNO. I figure that, as you said, if I'm going big then why not go for a Mistress. I agree. So I have my FFBM that has smoked every other knife I have had at chopping. At least for me.

So why the ASH1? Again, novelty, straight handle, and the price is right currently. I will say that the blade shape is not my favorite. I prefer the shape seen on the SFNOs and BATACs. Seems more agressive to me. Just my opinion. So far I prefer my old NO-E but am having trouble dropping $500 for one when the ASH1 will fit the bill for now for about 1/2 the cost. It's not the perfect medium knife for me (or is it? ;) ), as if there ever will be, but it has been a blast.

And I do not consider it a chopper so do not compare it to the Ratweiler or the likes. If I want a chopper then it;s a Mistress for me. I have been able to get it to chop well enough though. But if I need wood split then the baton comes out. nd let me tell you it is excellent at that. I almost broke my dead blow hammer on it. And it is more compact that the big boys. So I guess its back to preference again.

But if we are going to say things like the ASH1 is not a great chopper not great at fine work then I'd apply the same logic to all mid sized knives. Thus a solution is to get something like a Mistress that is an excellent chopper and a HRLM or BAII for the fine work. Medium sized knives will never be the best at either spectrum. But when you just want one they are a good option.

These are just my thoughts.

Just got the OD with tan. Went with the standard handles just to try something different. After handling both - I think i prefer the mag feel but I like the straight lines of the new one. Both are comfortable.

ASH-1 is great knife! I guess thats why I bought two of there suckers, I think I got some kind of special OD G10 slabs because mine looks like something else, not OD but keep in mine it looks Great!!!!

My LE just came today. I gotta say, I'm considering getting rid of BOTH of my CG's and just keeping my HOG knife.

Great design, but I've never been a "more thickness for thickness sake."

Plus the linen tigerhide just does som'in too. Can't wait to see it on a muddy blade.

It's a decent design - definitely above par by a good amount. But it's no SFNO.
