I just received...ahem...my second SBR today. I noticed that it differed somewhat from my first one, and I was wondering if there was an expert here who could tell me what's up.

SBR #1 has a logo with the word "Swamp Rat" as an outline, much like if you were using a stencil. Underneath it is "Wauseon, Ohio USA".

SBR #2 has a logo that has thick black lettering, somewhat looking like grafitti. It has nothing underneath it. Additionally, it looks to have a mini penetrator tip, which #1 clearly lacks.

Anyone know the story behind these two? Thanks!!!

#2 is clearly a forgery.

Send it to me and I will destroy it to preserve the value of #1.

Send me #1 and I'll protect it from folks like wash, who will want it destroyed to elevate the value of #2.

They both have tan handles. I hope you are not implying there was ever a black-handled version...gulp.

There's a few. I saw one get sold here about six months ago. And I think another is in Thailand.

There were 3 Black handle Protos.....Eric's "may" be the only to survive! I also have 2 SBRs, one with the rounded spine and the othe flat, one has a more fighter profile and the other has much more "belly" to it. Logo's are the same...thick colored in black..I had a 3rd and the logo was very light and outlined. I have heard of all sorts of variations on these.

Interesting...I think one of them has slightly more belly to it than the other, but I haven't looked too closely yet.

The SBR's were made in 2 batches, any differences probably occured because they came from different batches.

I was actually corrected on how many black handled SBR's exist and there were indeed 5 made, 2 were destroyed for testing, 1 sent to me (these 3 were all prototypes) and then 2 were requested to have black handles. I believe Troy has better info where the other black handled one's are than I do.

A word of caution when looking for the black handled SBR, make sure it was originally a Satin Battle Rat and didn't start out as black and was stripped. Here's what it should have, full flat grind, zero edge and logo. If it was stripped and reground to full flat the logo will be gone.

I hope that helps

:D:D

Thanks for the info Eric, and everyone else too. I was not aware that there were no SBRs without a logo, so that is definitely something to look out for. Still, the folks that I got mine from are top-notch all the way!!!
