Ok, I give in! You guys have made me buy a Surefire, and a Utilikilt, and I have a mile long list! Now I need a watch.

I dont have much to spend, around $150-$200 USD. I like the look of "dive watches", with a stainless or rubber bracelet. I dont like nylon, on a cheap Timex I had, it got pretty stinky. So far I have looked briefly at Seiko Black and Orange Monsters, and really like the look of them. I prefer a black or matte finished case, with a bright coloured face. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

Oh, and also links to good places to buy online would be good. Thanks all.

This is a good price from a good website.

You can find these cheaper on Ebay but make sure the seller has a long history of positive feedback. I would recommend against the orange face unless it is going to be your second watch just because the orange face may be less versatile than the black. I bought a Black Monster off of ebay from a dealer in Hong Kong. It was a great price and fast shipping. Shop around.

I'd like to pick up a Seiko Black Monster myself, for those times I don't wear my Omega SMP. Another killer cheap watch you might wish to consider is one of the Edifice models by Casio. They don't have a lot of bells and whistles, but they are cheap and tough as hell. You can get them at your local Wally World.

seiko divers are hard to beat, have had one since '79 or so, still works fine, looks pretty much like a std divers made in this era, never had the back off, dont wear much for the last few yrs, got into rolex, but it was worn daily for 20 yrs, only thing to fail was the band (3X).

another good place to look is a pawn shop, i recently saw a TAG pro in pretty good shape, it was $200 and ya know how pawn shops will work with ya on the price.

Howdy there,

You cannot beat a Seiko diver's watch for the price. The monsters are great but also look at the Seiko Knights. They are more modern. I have the SKXA33 with the same 7S26 movement and it's great. I wear mine everyday now for over a year.

I would recommend a Citizen Eco-Drive dive watch.

The Eco-Drive is simply awesome.
It does'nt need the battery replaced, which means the back does'nt have to be removed every four years (which would possibly compromise the water resistance), and it does'nt lose as much time as an automatic per month, and you don't have to wear it or place it in an watch-winder for it to keep running--just give it a little light now and then.

Good luck,
Allen.

I've ordered a citizen and a couple Glycines ( lagunare & Incursore)
nothing but good things to say about princeton watches.

Not really a watch guru, but I love my Seiko 007 divers. I don't think you would be disappointed in the Seiko.

I would like to have a monster as well.

Man oh Man, this thread just cost me 128.00 bones. A Seiko 007 is enroute to me. Thanks guys. :D

Thanks for all your help guys!

Looks like an Orange Monster then! I dont think the orange face will be an issue, I'm only 17, and I dont work in an office or anything, so it should be ok. And the orange is just so cool! Doesnt Dirk Pitt have an orange faced Doxa?

I also thought of something else. I know a pilot who flies to Hong Kong quite often, when I get the money, I will ask him to look around and see how much watches are there, he can get brand name stuff pretty cheap.

And when you get ready you can have Bill Yao work his magic on it.

It won't be too much longer, and Bill will have my 007 to play with. :D

Thought I'd share this with yall. Buddy of mine called me this eve, and told me that he bought himself a Citizen Eco SS watch for $98.00. He said a jewelry store in Mesquite, TX was having a going out of business sale. I thought that was a damn good deal.

What kind of work do you guys like done on a watch? I see Bill Yao does polishin, bead blasting, and domed crystals. What stuff makes your watch "better"?

Also, what are the differences between these two watches?

This one: http://chronograph.com/store/mli_viewItem.asp?idproduct=1679

And this one: http://chronograph.com/store/mli_viewItem.asp?idproduct=154

They have the same specs, except they have different looks, and one is $40 cheaper. I think I like the look of the first one better. Which one is actually the "Orange Monster"? Thanks.

It's probably the same movement and case, but the more expensive one has a better(read: more expensive) bracelet and a better watchface crystal("Hardlex" sounds like a type of mineral glass). Both look like great watches so you can't go wrong here.

Isn't the orange monster sort of a tribute to the Doxa orange face? My recollection is Doxa was the first to build a specific sort of diver's watch and promote the ornage face as easier to see under water. I do know it's the Dirk Pitt(of Clive Cussler's books)watch and in the movie "Sahara" you'll see it on the lead's tanned wrist;)

The more expensive one has a Oyster style bracelet and is assembled in Japan. The Japan models are sometimes more $ than their Hong Kong watches - although there is no real reason why (no difference in quality).

This is the OM:
