Calling ZT0200 owners - detent question!

Ill try to carry it for a while to see how it goes. If it keeps on annoying me, ill give it a go.

Here is an idea (because I know you are a tinkerer :D)
Take the knife apart and use a 1/16" drill bit and drill a slightly deeper detent in the blade. That will create a deeper and more pronounced hole for the detent ball to rest in. Otherwise, find the sweet spot on the pivot tension, and use some teflon tape or LocTite.

LLTW!!! ;)

Youre absolutely correct, im a tinkerer!

Ive played a bit with the pivot screw and ive managed to find a (semi) sweet-spot on the knife. Ill probably use it for a while to evaluate it, before i start drilling or bending.

LLTW :D

I picked up a ZT 0200ST yesterday and thought the detent was weak in it as well upon using the knife. I may try the liner bending trick and pivot adjustment to see if it firms it up a bit and makes it feel a bit safer...

I wanted to switch to tip down carry, but probably won't considering how easily the blade opens right now.

I hope I can find the sweet spot like you did Prop! :)

When bending the liner be sure to go in small increments. Also be sure to hold the entire length of the locking liner when you bend it. I left my pivot in the handle when I bent mine so I could have some reference as to how much bend I was putting in it.

RevDevils suggestion is a good thing to do also.

But it all sounds like the pivots need to be tightened a little bit to keep the blade from falling out. I always keep a tight pivot in all my folders, that are edc's, for this reason. It may take a little trial and error to find the "sweet spot" on it, but it's worth it to have peace of mind that the blade will not unintentionaly open in your pocket.

So, if you tighten the pivot, there is more resistance to opening. This should allow you to build up more pressure on the flipper before you overcome the detent. Additionally, the greater force should impart more momentum to the blade allowing it to open fully and lock. Am I correct in my theory above?
I just purchased one of these, and cannot get it to flip fully open without adding some wristiness to it. I didn't want to futz with it until I saw something about it here.

No, that's not the case at all. The detent is independent of the pivot. The 0200 doesn't have a flipper action like you may come to expect from a 0560, or 0801. That design just needs some help opening it.

Like Stick said the detent is independent of the pivot. It can be smooth as butter opening and closing, but still have crap in the detent hole. I would take it apart and clean the detent hole to make sure nothing is keeping it from engaging properly.

Mine stays closed very well, a good shake will not move the blade at all. That said, I cannot build up enough pressure on the flipper to fully open the blade without the blade popping out of the detent. Maybe I'm just too used to my 0350, but I thought that a flipper should open fully by just using the blade protrusion.
This is my first flipper, so maybe I just need to get used to wresting the knife a bit to fully open it.
I did check the pivot and it is nice and tight, and after looking at it further, the pivot has nothing to do with the detent.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Here's a tip: when you put your finger on the flipper, push in and up towards the front of the knife. This is called 'pre-loading' the flipper. Once you have the in and up loaded, snap your finger back. the blade will fully open and lock each and every time. With time, this will become a natural movement, and you're off to see the flipper!

Not really. Tightening the pivot increases friction all the way throughout the blade opening movement.

I think, that's just the way the 0200 is.

My 0200 will open by a wrist flick with the blade down also. I believe the weight of the blade is the main factor also. It has never opened by itself in my pocket, so I have no complaints.
