here is a samller sized chopper/pack knife!! This is slightly smaller than the one I carry on my hunting pack. Its large enough to do some real work to get you out of a bind, yet not so large and heavy as to be left back at the truck.

OAL- 14 1/4"

blade- 8 3/4" long, .210" thick, 1 7/8" wide

weight-1 pound 13 ounces with sheath

steel- Aldo's 5160, Forged, with in-house differential heat treatment which includes double normalize, double anneal, double edge quench, and triple draw, for a great performing blade, that holds a great edge, and yet is easy to sharpen!

grind- a light convex grind, sharpened on a smiths diamond hone with micro bevels, to an agressive razor edge

finish-with a 400 grit machine finish under a scotchbrite belt finish, with light hamon, for a nice easy to maintain working finish

handle- grandmillo with brass pins and thong tube

guard- no guard on this one, but the handle is contoured to steer your hand away from the cutting edge

sheath- 11oz leather, hand stitched, clean, hot-waxed, loop is sized for a 2" belt. personally I keep a blade like this one strapped to my pack instead of on my belt, the belt loop is a nice place to attach a strap though, and I left enough leather at the end of the sheath to punch you own custom hole for a lower attachment point.

I cut a 2x4 in half twice, and the edge would still shave. it also passed an edge flex test, and a nail test {where you clamp the blade edge up in a vise and place a common nail across the edge and hammer the nail until it is cut halfway through} and put about half my wieght {210 lbs}to flex the blade sideways in a vise to check for toughness.

$240 plus $20 for shiping/insurance to CONUS. I can accept paypal Joe357m@bresnan.net or money order.

Hey Joe, I just wanted to say I love how thorough you are about testing your stuff. I don't know how many knives you had to toss out before you were able to consistently make them pass your range of tests, but I think it was well worth it. I'd love to see your stuff in some of the knife challenge competitions that pop up as I think a lot of custom makers would sweat bullets knowing they had to go up against something like this.

Capitalizedliving- i dont remember how many knives i made before i began to be satisfied with the tests. I would guess a couple hundred on the low side. And most of those reside in the city dump now, wish id kept count and more examples than i did.

I agree that even if it had taken twice as many test knives id still think it was worth it!

I keep missing those contests, but one of these days i will get to put one of my blades into one, and i am excited to see how they compare with the blades from some of the amazing blades from other makers!

I love it Joe. If I didn't already have your minichopper, I would jump on it. Seriously, you should be in those competitions. Your "Caltonized" blades are the toughest, longest lasting and sharp blades I own and I know your blades would stand up and shine in the contests....they are the best! I have 2 of your creations and am waiting anxiously for my third! Somebody please buy this beauty or I will have to own it!
