Calvin Richardson Shrike sheath W.I.P. - Final pictures posted **Picture Heavy!!**

You're welcome!

I tend to use thicker 10oz or thicker leather for larger sheaths. Most people stick with 8-9oz for bigger stuff. It's personal preference. The stiffness and how Saddle Skirting finishes are two big reasons why I used it on large sheaths. It also feels really tough which helps sell better. he he. I asked around recently, most people prefer the 8-9oz Tooling leather for my smaller sheaths, but prefer the Skirting for their big stuff. Then again, a few have asked for lighter weight leather on big sheaths, for weight reduction. Like I said, personal preference.

Had more pictures to share yesterday, but went to dinner earlier then expected. Came home and forgot to post them. Got to mail some sheaths now, will get an update sometime today. LOL!

Hehe, you are keeping us well entertained, but yep! Getting those sheaths out to the customers anxiously waiting on them is definately the priority. When it is my turn to be waiting I can imagine the anticipation just killing me. As for the heavier tougher selling better. A perfect example is the HI Khuk. The "over-built" ones were so well received that has become the norm. So makes sense it would be the same for sheaths as well. But I know from my conceal holsters that leather maintained properly holds up incredibly well after literally decades of daily wear so I don't have a problem with the lighter weight ones either. But if I am carrying a 3lb knife a thin leather sheath isn't going to be my top way of weight reduction LOL.

Shavru, thanks! You totally nailed it. My mom and I are playing the card game Hand and Foot, she's ahead and shuffling for the next round while I'm supposed to be cleaning up the dishes. LOL!! Just had to login and see what was up.

Great thread Heber. It's fascinating, and satisfying somehow, watching a craftsman at work. Awaiting the next set of photographs.

Thanks Bookie!

The sheath is finished and I've updated the OP with more pictures. The last set of pictures didn't turn out really well, so I'll take some better ones tomorrow. Thanks for looking, more to come. :D

Just added some cool outdoor shots of the finished sheath. Hope you like them!

Now to start work on the next WIP thread. ;)

Is the second keeper strap just a spare to go along with. I don't get it? I'm leather challenged.

Yes, it's a spare. Also both keeper straps are made from different leather. This gives the customer a chance to pick which color he likes best.
