I keep drooling over this upcoming knife and I am wondering if there is any hint of a ETA and I'm curious what the street price will be. Will we see it below $150? It's going to be a perfect EDC knife...cant wait!

If I had to guess, based on the relative prices of the G-10 and CF Caly 3's and the G-10 Caly 3.5, I'd expect MSRP to be in the neighborhood of $270, which would put the street price a bit higher than $150 at all but the deepest discounters. But that's strictly a semi-educated guess, nothing more. I'll probably get one anyway, but I really wish they were using either the same CF used on the models from Taiwan or the peel ply used on the CF Stretch.

I'd hazard a $130-140 street price. With this coming out, and with my R Nishijin overtaking it for EDC, I think I'm going to have to get rid of my Super Blue 3.5.

I love my standard Caly 3.5, and this new flavor is sweet. But while carbon fiber looks cool, is often/usually/always less grippy than G10. But yeah, I want one.

That's one I plan on picking up. I like the look of that CF, and love how well Carbon Fiber grips when wet.

I have one one Preorder from GP. $171.50. I didn't want to miss this one so I jumped early!

I have the 3 inch version and it is my usual EDC at work. Love the steel perfomance and laminated blades look cool to me. I plan on picking one of these up but think the CF they used on the M390 Millie would be a better choice.

I have never been able to handle a cal3 or 3.5, but does anyone know if the sage1 is alot smoother opening than the caly? I have other lockbacks of spyderco, but never been able to play around with the caly

I played with the Caly3 CF ZDP and Sage1, and bought the Sage.
The opening of the Caly seemed perfectly fine to me. I don't recall any roughness or difficulty in deployment.
The things that swayed me were the grippiness of the Sage CF vs the smoothness of the Caly CF,
and the ease of the Walker Linerlock.
Looking back, the slick scales on the Caly would be easier on the pocket, and they add a unique, upmarket feel. Sometimes I wish I went the other way. And that steel...

I carried the prototype for a while until Eric said he needed it for shows. Drat. I'm looking forward to getting mine.

Hi Paul, on the carbon fiber. some o fthe makers have their "secret" materials that they prefer not to share with other makers.

This is going to be a tough one for me. The Caly SB 3.5 is the perfect EDC. I have two Para 2 on pre-order that will probably be more perfect and now the Caly ZDP-189 3.5 is also somewhere between perfect and massively perfect. The price may end up deciding the issue.

I also have two PM2 on preorder and I wish Spyderco would stop killing it with their awesome sprints and upcoming knives. I'm not a bank dammit!

I am very happy to see this knife coming to life. The design is really good, and Moki makes some of the best knives in Japan (from a production standpoint, some are as good s customs).

Moki got the subcontract for these? That would explain a lot. Every Japan-made lockback Spydie I have really does it for me in some intangible way. The tolerances & feel are just "right" in some hard-to-describe way.
