I'm going to buy the cal 3, but not sure to go with the CF or not. Ive read some chipping problems on it. any feed back would be good. Thanks

I would pick the G10 and VG10 model. I don't see the CF model as better than the G10 model. My ZDP lost its edge quite easily after cutting through fiberglassreinforced packing tape. and the 420J laminate scratches too easily.

I really like my CF/ZDP Caly 3. But, if I was gonna order another it would be the G10/VG10 version and I would use the couple left over buck to buy a new SAk (or flowers for my wife if I was smarter!!!).

Nothing wrong with the CF version, I think it is the best spydie ever made. Mine came so sharp I can not even describe it. Cuts like a laser through apples and pears! envelopes fall open in fear of this edge.

That being said, I think the G10 version would have a bit better grip. I use mine as an office carry knife, which is pretty light use. If it was used for harder stuff, I would probably swap it out (or just buy) for a G10 model.

Are you talking about chipping problems with the CF or the blade? I have a CF Caly3, and haven't had any issues with the CF chipping. The blade is susceptible to scratching. I love the look of the CF, but if I had it to do again, I would by the G10 just for the difference in price.

YES!...............but you will also NEED a SE one :D

I did not realize that the cf was smooth on the Caly3, I was expecting cf like the military when I ordered it. I prefer my G 10 VG10. Plain edge, of course

The Caly3 has a matte surface, some people describe it as "chalky"
Honestly, it's one of my favourite textures for a folder handle. Not slippery, but it doesn't shred my pants either...

I've had no problems with either my G10 or my CF Caly 3. They've only had light-medium use, but they've both performed well with no chipping anywhere.

Personally, I prefer G10 and VG10 as an almost perfect combination for a 3" EDC knife. G10 is a reliable handle material that can take a lot more abuse than you'd think at first. VG10 is a tough stainless steel that can get unbelievably sharp and still be fairly impact resistant. That's important for us klutzes that keep on finding staples and steel rack posts when we're cutting things at work.

But the CF Caly 3 is a gorgeous knife with top end F&F.

I've described it that way. I would recommend the VG-10/G-10 model. The G-10 offer a tactile grip. Honestly, I haven't noticed an appreciable difference between the performance of the VG-10 and ZDP.
