Caly 3 G-10 -vs- Carbon Fiber

Another consideration is that the G10/VG10 Caly3 is disco'd, while the CF/ZDP version is not. (The pricing is odd, since the non-disco'd knife is actually more steeply discounted.)

Probably G10 variant is not overstocked. Just to be safe last week I bought second backup.

I have both, and greatly prefer the G10 handles. If the CF version was like my CF Millies, I would have the opposite opinion, but the slick CF on the Caly just isn't what I like in a knife handle.

Also, leaning towards the G10, is the possibility of getting a (now discontinued) serrated version!

Best Caly ever would be an S30V serrated blade on rough CF handles and with screws instead of rivets!

But, whichever way you look into it, any Caly3 is a great pocket knife. Classy, sturdy, performant.

I have both knives and prefer VG10/G10 variant by large margin. Caly3 VG10/G10 is my EDC for more then three years already, I absolutely love it. I bought CF Caly3 just because I love design, I never wanted to carry it. I absolutely hate uneven laminated lines. I like the look of G10 on Caly3 more than CF on Caly3, also it is given a good grip. VG10 easy to sharpen and more scratch resistant than 420. Also VG10 Caly3 is discontinued, so it will be harder to buy it later.

+1 :thumbup: I have both as well, and agree with bh. My CF version has a lot of scratches on the 420 sides. But I like them both!.

My CF caly is one of the best knives I have ever carried. Talk about scary sharp. I also like it because it is so light. Kinda got tired of heavy knives.

I EDC both the G10/VG10 Dragonfly and Caly3 which were both recent purchases. I went through the same dilemma as you are, trying to decide between the G10 and CF. I'm happy I went with the G10, I love the grip and prefer the finish over the CF which other CF owners have confirmed is very slick/slippery, especially when wet.
I too may have to get a backup G10 Caly3 before they're gone.

Well, I did end up with the carbon fiber Caly 3 and only paid $105 for it. I love this knife, the smooth finish of the carbon fiber doesn't bother me at all, in fact I like the feel. The laminated blade has held an edge well so far and is the sharpest knife I've had out of the box. Something about really hard steel makes it feel different when cutting. I'm not sure what the G-10 version's been going for lately but I feel I got a lot of knife for the money. Way to go Spyderco!

Hey hoop, I'm glad it met your expectations. I agree, I got a lot of knife for the price I paid too. It's probably my best built folder.
Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
