Caly 3 question

By the way, as previously mentioned, the Caly 3.5 is probably the slimmest 3.4" blade folder in the Spyderco lineup with the exception of the Southard. Check out the picture alongside the Caly 3 and Sage 1. It's not much longer than Caly 3 and weighs only a tenth of an ounce more. If I didn't have a 3" blade length limit while within L.A. city limits I'd be carrying Caly 3.5 over Caly 3 more often. Remember also that going the Caly 3.5 route opens up the possibility of the VG-10/G10.

There was also the bolstered CF scaled version in VG-10 core damascus. Those should still be fairly easy to find.

Every time I am about to pull the trigger on a caly that pinned construction freaks me out. The 3 feels so good in a dense kind of way, but I just keep imagining the pins getting looser with every use. I have a mint burgundy and a thinned out black frn that is one of my designated pocket scalpels but paying that much for something pinned together just rubs me wrong. Russ

Personally I'd rather have pins. Screws have a nasty habit of doing the other thing they were made to do, unscrewing. That said, do you realize that, unlike the Calypso Jrs., the pivots on all the Caly 3 and 3.5 versions, except for the bolstered damascus Caly 3, are screws? Moki does not use washers, so the blade can even be removed for cleaning if one is so inclined.

Man, I should just do it. I have so many tank knives that I am sure I wouldn't use them hard enough to disturb anything. The black Jr. Has seen some use and it is still quite tight and that is a pinned pivot. Thanks Deacon, that may be the nudge I need. Russ

FWIW, I have a few pinned knives (Caly 3, Centofante 3, Manix 2 lightweight, etc.) and I haven't had the slightest trouble with the pins. I love them.

You are really worrying about a total, complete non-issue. :)

Well the pinned together construction doesn't bother me at all I just wish I could hold these knives before purchasing.

If you are willing to travel to Connecticut, I will let you play with both Caly3 and Caly3.5 :)

Well guys I think I have made up my mind that after I snag a PM2 the Caly 3.5 in VG10 will be my next Spyderco.

Thanks for all the pics and helpful opinions.
