I just got my caly 3 and noticed a line accross the bottom of the blade as seen in the picture. What is that line I am assuming a coating or different steel. I know it has ZDP-189 with some coating. But anyway love the knive.

The blade is made up of three layers of steel. A single layer of ZDP-189 sandwiched between two layers of 420J2. The line is the point at which the ZDP "core" becomes visible. If you look down at the spine, you can also see a "stripe" of ZDP running down the center of it.

Picture a rectangle block of 3 layers. Now start grinding away at the sides of the rectangle from edge to spine. That line begins the middle layer, and that's the ZDP-189 steel.

I just ordered an Endura in ZDP-189

Is it going to have the same line, do they use the same process?

The Endura's blade is all ZDP. The reason the Caly is like that is because it's "laminated" ZDP. Laminated means they sandwiched ZDP between 420, but the Endura's blade is a solid piece of ZDP steel.
