I just got a Caly 3 in a trade (sending away my Native5). Former owner said he got it in a trade from someone, played with it a bit and then it went back in the box. The person he got it from said it was LNIB. Unfortunately this is starting to become a common occurrence in trading with people.

It looks like someone at some point tried to polish the blade. Here are some pics:

In all the pictures I have seen the blade appears to be more of a satin finish than a mirror finish. You can also see some sanding scratches in it. The black in the Spyderbug is completely worn away and the lamination line is crooked.

Just doesn't seem to mesh with pictures/videos I have seen on the Caly so I was hoping for some Spyder experts to chime in.

My caly does not look like that, at all. I think your right and someone tried to polish it. I just looked at mine and the grind lines run from the spine to edge, not tip to handle. The spydie should be gold in color and yours is almost gone.

Mine also doesn't look like that. The Spidy on my blade is dark (black) and the blade has a fine vertical brushed finish to it.

The streaks running tip to handle are my thumb prints. In the first picture you can see the marks in the reflection of the light.

Ah, I gotcha. But yeah mine still doesn't look like that. And my spydie is dark too, I was looking at it in dark light and it looked like the gold color. That sucks man...

Also, I think your picture may be magnifying the issue, but my mesh line isn't exactly straight either.

All I see is smeared fingerprints.

My laminated Caly3 (bought new) is fairly polished.

All of my Caly 3 & 3.5 ZDP's also have a light polished finish and a dark logo. The lamination lines vary with these series and crooked lines as well as uneven ones (one side lower) are not uncommon.

Certainly somebody work on this knife. May be this is what previous owner meant that he played with it.

The lamination line is fine but I can't really tell what else is going on with the fingerprints on the blade.

Got to a microfiber cloth in the car today. Here are some pics without the fingerprints.

It looks polished. And the circular lines near the pivot show that this blade was opened and closed a lot. This is not a LNIB knife.

Every thing but the logo not being black looks fine. I polished mine and the logo may have faded a bit, but not absent of any color.
Here is mine for comparison, as you can see my laminate line is squiggly. Also, mine is not a perfect mirror polish.

it depends how much metal you grinded during polishing...
mine was polished and looks like this...

^^^ You must have spent a lot more time than I did, so did the OP's knife. I can tell yours has more sheen to it for sure. Also did you round the spine ever so slightly? Good looking Caly.
