Caly 3 questions w/ pics.

The 420J2 cladding on the ZDP Caly scratches easily, but is also fairly easy to polish out. I suspect that is what happened with the result obviously being a blade more highly polished that the factory finish but also the loss of the dark logo. Many might prefer to the factory finish and consider it added value but calling it LNIB would be inaccurate IMO. One of my Caly's was a LNIB purchase and it had considerable pivot scratching but no marks or noticeable wear on the blade. I considered it a light user rather than LNIB even though it may have have ever cut anything but I was buying it for a user and given the price I paid I was happy.

LNIB is a highly subjective term in use, but at least by using it the seller is disclosing that the item is not NIB. In my view, something is either new in box or it is used, defective, or modified in box. When I see LNIB I think of it in more human terms of being "almost attractive". From there it is just a matter of figuring out what that really means.

Very nice work and photo, tap78.

I agree. LNIB seems to be a catch all.

The knife I traded away was a Native5 that I got in trade. That person said the Native was LNIB and was another 'I got this in a trade, played with it a bit and now I'm trading it again'. I got it and it was clearly a light user. No biggie because I was planning on using it but when I traded it for the Caly I was very clear and described it as lightly used in very good condition.

Of course, he has already traded my Native5 to someone else.

I tried trading with people do I could experience different knives without the expense and offload some knives I don't use for knives I might use more.

It seems like some people like to trade knives in order to try trading up continuously for nicer knives. Like the dude who started with a paper clip and worked his way up to a house. That guy got a caly3 that had been polished, who knows what he gave up (unlikely something as nice as my native), then trades up for the native but not being 100% accurate in the description. Then he trades the Native for who knows what.
