Caly 3 ZDP lamination question

OK, posted this query over on the general forum, but thought it probably belonged more over here. The question is: is it normal for the lamination line on the Caly 3 ZDP to be smooth, or is a little squiggle/abberation not unusual? I have such a "squiggle" on my new Caly 3, and while I'm sure it does not affect performance one iota, it still looks a little strange to my eye. Especially on a knife that in all other respects is essentially perfect. I don't have a pic handy, but can post one if what I'm saying makes no sense. Thanks for the input, all.

I believe that it's been said that the indenting of the lamination line is due to the finishing process removing more of the softer outer laminate than the hard zdp core. :)

Indeed it has. My question is, how uniform/even is that line supposed to be. Not in terms of depth, but in terms of distance from the edge. You see, mine I guess you could say swoops up closer to the tip, moving further away from the edge. It does not describe a uniform arc along the length of the blade, but rather has an irregularity closer to the tip, the ZDP "band" becoming quite a bit wider. As I stated, it undoubtedly does not affect the knife's performance, but just looks a little odd, and out of place on such a finely-finished knife. So my question still stands: is this to be expected, or did I get an unusual specimen? Perhaps pics are in order. I'll attempt to get some posted later tonight.

They are typically in the 1/4" area and a little wavy. I have two in the family. Awesome blade.

Here is a blurry but very normal rendition:

OK, so it's starting to seem like it's not an unusual thing then. That's what I wanted to know. It won't change how I use the knife, that's for sure. But this is the first knife I've had that looks as good as it performs, and this small cosmetic defect had me wondering. I'm sure it's not easy to keep the lamination line even.

This is a nice review of the Caly 3 ZDP, but I post it because it's high-resolution (make sure to hit that HD button) with lots of focus on the blade half way through. This should be your best bet on comparing your blade to a "normal one" without actually going to a knife store.

Raindog,

Yours is like mine. A little waviness in the line and it gets further from the edge near the tip. It is to be expected. Enjoy the great knife that the Caly3 ZDP is... :D

"Squiggle" is perfectly normal. I have yet to see/own a Spyderco laminated ZDP blade that does not have it to some degree...

...although not always to the same degree on both sides...

Yup, it's kinda how I figured, then. I'm not letting it bother me; it's a great knife. I like it much better than the G10/VG10 version I used to have. This was just an excuse to post some pics of my new Caly, and to get all you Caly3 owners to do the same:D
