I don't have a delica yet so i was thinking of getting one in foliage frn, but now i've been looking more at a Caly 3 because it's nicer. Is it worth the extra caah to get the caly?
Thanks!

I think so, but I just really like choils, which is choil-less ones like the Delica and Endura don't do it for me (they are both fine knives, but if given the choice...). As usual, mileage may vary.

I would also recommend the Caly 3. I like the leaf-shaped blade better than the D4 blade because of it's width, it's longer cutting edge, and the tip. I also prefer flat ground to saber ground because they seem to cut through thick and deep material better to me. I've found that the mid-lock is very easy to use with either hand so the knife is completely ambidextrous.

The Caly 3 in G10 is a great slicer and is still very tough. I use either a Caly 3 or a UKPK at work every day even though I carry other knives for EDC chores. The F&F on the G10 Caly 3 is exceptional for it's price point. The washerless pivot design allows very close tolerances that seem to stay cleaner than a knife with washers. I've had mine apart after a year of use and there was nothing more than a little lube in the pivot area.

And, like the Dr said, the G10 version is scheduled to be disco'd soon.

+1 - I also have both, and dalefuller said it perfectly. He covered all of the bases!

I don't have a delica but am extremely happy with the caly 3 and most people that handle it are impressed with it also. I think it was the sharpest knife I got out of the box.

Take a look at the Paramilitary. It combines the best of both the Caly 3 and the Delica.

I won't go into the knives themselves but I can say the foliage green frn looks nice in person.

You won't regret the extra expenditure. The Caly III is a class act. Great knife.

The Caly 3 is a better slicer. The saber ground blade on the Delica 4 is probably a little more robust for general utility use, but having said that I've never had trouble with either one of them. Eventually you will probably end up getting both.

I've seen the ZDP-189 w/ carbon fiber handles version online for very good prices recently. Use google product search, sort results by price, and scroll until you find one from a high rated seller. I believe Amazon has them also.

Either version of the Caly3 will be more refined and a better slicer.

You can get either with VG-10 or ZDP-189.

The Caly3 is pinned, the D4 is screwed together, so if you want to be able to disassemble the knife, you want the D4.

I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either (or, better, both).

I have both a Delica 4 and a UKPK. Hands down, the UKPK is my preferred knife. It shares the same Caly3 design (with an even deeper finger choil). It feels great in hand and the full flat grind makes it a wicked slicer.

I'd recommend the Caly3.

I have both the D4waved and the CF/ZDP Caly3, and they are both excellent knives and worth the cost imo.

D4 (and especially the waved version) is a very solid worker with a lot of utility. Very light, and surprisingly strong. With the waved version, it even has more utility.

Caly3 is probably one of the best EDC blades in production. The ergos are amazing, the blade shape makes virtually any cutting task extremely easy and the FFG is a superior cutting edge to the D4. In addition, if you opt for the ZDP version, it holds an edge for a LONG time.

The Caly3 gets more pocket time than the D4W, however, the D4W is my most often selected 2nd knife (in back pocket) and in that task it really excels.

Caly III, UKPK, Para Mill or the Military over the Delica 4. Had a Delica 4 not to long ago. For hard use I guess it was ok but the others are just that much better.

I think the G10 D4 would be a better comparison to the Caly3, than the FRN D4....Green G10 scales, full SS liners, FFG, and screw construction. Just sayin

The Caly III is gonna be more pricey but the "extras" you are getting may justify the higher cost. As mentioned, you would be getting a choil. Full flat grind with distal taper, (world-class slicing ability). Plus the Caly III is getting disco'd.

The Delica however, is rebuildable. Kits are readily available at SFO. Replacement clips are too. You'd be getting the 1979 Ford Pickup of pocketknives. Rebuildable, willing and ready to take a beatin', dependable when the weather's bad, the cows are out, the fence is down, you have a runny nose, and the cuttin' needs to be done anyhow. :)

My suggestion, get the Caly. But that's just me. Love that distal taper. And since they're getting disco'd, there's closeout deals to be had. Check a certain shoppe that sells cutlery if you get my drift. :p

But alas, there's no way you can go wrong with the Delica. Nothing has been determined as a result of this post. I feel like a politician. :foot:

Well the Caly it is! I'll probably list something for trade and see if I can aquire one. Thanks for your help everyone!
