Review Calypso Jr. in SuperBlue

So the Calypso is full SuperBlue blade .

From the looks of my specimen and everything that I've seen so far, yes; this Caly Jr. sprint run in Super Blue features a plain Super blue blade. It's not cladded or laminated with any other steel.

I stumbled on one for MAP price, nostalgia kicked in, and I bought it. The Caly Jr in VG-10 and gray FRN was my first "real" knife many moons ago and it was all I owned or carried for months. I wound up selling it at a premium when they disappeared for a spell but kind of missed having it around. This new one sure is a flash from the past -- the scaled texturing, pinned construction, tip-down carry, and double -- but not jimped -- finger choils reminded me that this was indeed a very different beast from the ubiquitous Delica that seems to have pretty much displaced it in the line-up. Mine does have the annoying uneven lockbar issue and I have to say that I wasn't expecting that kind of defect on a Spyderco. I can live with it and look forward to playing around with that Super Blue steel.

Are these all gone and not coming back from the usual sellers? I didn’t get any notification emails from where I signed up for them, and have been looking forward to this for a long, long time. I’m really ticked off if they’re gone already. I hate to get bitter over something as banal as a low alloy carbon steel calypso jr.—and I was lucky to get a caly3.0 in laminated hap40– which I love right along with my millies—but I feel really depressed these are gone before I ever heard about them coming in!

They have been coming in and out of stock at dealers randomly in the U.S. since at least 9/8 (the day I bought mine from BladeHQ) and the last that I know of dropped on 9/24 at River's Edge. They have been selling out within minutes of releasing at each and every dealer so notifications likely wouldn't have helped you. I'm not sure if there are any dealers left that have yet to release theirs in the U.S., but your best bet is to follow the Caly Jr. thread over on the Spyderco forum as people have been updating it with stock notifications as soon as they drop.

I picked up a backup at a local shop after I purchased my Caly Jr. from BladeHQ because I loved it so much. I didn't plan on selling it, but if worst comes to worst, let me know and I'm sure we can work something out.

That is an incredibly kind offer! I don’t have words, really. I’ll let you know if I can’t find anything in the next couple of weeks, and if you’re still willing. Thanks again!

Placed my preorder on 12/8. Like you, my order was showing zero in stock and I was getting nervous. But, I got my shipping notice on Thursday (9/20). So I think you might be OK.
Got another zero on hand email yesterday. Looks like I'm just waiting for the cancellation email at this point. It's really not a $140 knife to me, so I'll be skipping it entirely.
