First off, I love my Military. Ever since I got it, it's been my EDC...at work, at home, anywhere and everywhere. Holds a wicked edge, lightning fast deployment, versatile PlainEdge, great grip, good-sized Spydie Hole, and tip-down carry. Because of these reasons I considered it THE ultimate knife for EDC.

Until...

This past weekend at a local gun show, I bagged a Calypso Jr. PE, in VG-10, and a Jester. The Calypso Jr., IMHO, has lived up to ALL the great reviews that I've read about it, in the Bladeforums and the Spydie website forum. Excellent grip with the fishscale FRN design, great ergonomics, RAZOR SHARP  VG-10 steel, and talk about LightWeight. The size of this Spydie is deceiving, it can cut a whole lot more than what one would think. In short, it's a real "little big knife".:D It's going to give my Military a long deserved vacation.

Spyderco products continue to amaze me...

Sal and Spydie crew keep up the great work!!!

I'm not surprised that we're continually surprised by spyderco product, but don't taunt me.
I want the following:
Civilian
Military
Police Tie Clip
Renegade
Harpy
Vesuvius
Dragonfly.
etc...

I picked one of these up thru Smoky Mountain with a serrated edge about a month ago. They're having a heck of a sale on 'em over there. Anyhoo, I swapped the clip and made a lefty out of it for off-side carry. Made it a secondary to my Police. The Calypso Jr gets to do all the dirty work while the Police stays nice and clean. :) At first glance I thought the FRN handle looked cheap and weak. That was not the case by any means. I still think it looks chinzy but it is very strong and grippy.

This little sucker was sharp when I got it and a weekly meeting with the ceramic rods of my Shapmaker helps it stay that way. Like I said, it is my "hard use" knife. I only wish it was available in micarta. Cheers.

Harry Callahan,

Did you know that they were made in Micarta awhile back, with a blade of AUS-8? There may still be some of these around for sale if you are looking for one.

Jeff/1911.

That's great news Jeff. I will begin patrolling for a micarta version immediately.

Harry,

If I see one for sale anywhere, would you like me to let you know about it?

Jeff/1911.

Thanks for the heads up Jeff. That Calypso doesn't have a reversable clip but the price is certainly right. I'm going to place a bid right now. Whooo Hooooo!!

I bagged a PE Micarta version a little while back. Very nice little EDC. W/ the black clip it gets a lot of mileage in dark dress slacks & the size doesn't make the sheeple freak when you need to do up a bagel.

I probably shouldn't admit it, but I once bought a PS Calypso Jr. lightweight. Wasn't crazy about it and sold it. I loved the handle material, but prefer the sleeker blade profile of the Delica.
Ducking now. :footinmou

mnblade...
I have never seen a Part Serrated Calypso Jr, either LW or micarta. Was yours really PS?

Yesterday I picked up a Calypso Jr. Micarta PE. Wow, it was love at first sight! :)
Very nice little knife, and I like the golden bug on the clip! The blade is made of AUS-8, any comments on that?

I was looking for the original Calypso (not the Jr.) but I couldn't find one here in Europe. Sad but true!

Great find, Celery! I managed to pick up my Calypso Jr. at a gun show a few months back. It is the PE FRN model, with the fishscale grip, and VG-10 steel. A very nice and useful little blade, I use it at home just about everyday, mainly because of its' lightweight design, and of course, its' Razor Sharp PlainEdged blade. It's definitely one of my favorite Spydies. ;) :D

No, it isn’t any good EDC, it is excellent EDC! :)
Here is mine set up for left-hand use.

The only drawback is that it is discontinued, so you might have difficulties to find new one if you unluckily would lose yours :(

If only the Calypso Jr. came with a micarta handle and a VG-10 blade.

I'm still looking for one of those older model, little Calypsos.....:( (I've got a full size Calypso PE with the Micarta scales and VG-10 steel, and I'd love one of the Micarta Jrs. to make a pair.)

Are there any other modells around of the full sized Calypso than the one with the Micarta scales and VG-10 steel? Any FRN/SS maybe?
