Calypso Jr. PE....Ultimate EDC??

Some PE Calypso Jr's (vg-10, FRN) have been showing up on eBay lately. They get snapped up at the asking price before any bidding most of the time. They are getting nearly impossible to find. Superb EDC, my all-time favorite. If you want one and you see one don't hesitate or you'll miss out.

I carry a Micarta AUS-8 Plain Edge most every day. A fantastic knife...I have picked up 2 spares and a VG-10 FRN as well. These are great cutters.

I love my plain-edged Micarta Calypso Jr. and it is the perfect EDC when the G-10 Police would be too much.

BTW, my wife carries a serrated-edged Micarta Calypso Jr. as an EDC also.

She thought it was "sweet" of me to get us matching knives.

Now if I can just sell her on the idea of matching .357 snub-nose revolvers!

Allen.

The first time I handled a Jr., I felt the same way about the choil. I was afraid my finger might slip and get a Spyder-bite. But even though I have used my Calypsos for everything from opening boxes to field dressing whitetails it has never happened. Now I feel that the shallow choil just adds control. In a heavy MBC situation it could be a factor, but it hasn't been for me in normal usage.

I own about 15 Spydercos (along with a Sebenza) and I don't think that any of them compare with the Calypso Jr. PE for EDC. I have a VG-10 Delica and after the Calypso I just can't warm up to it. Sal, this and the Military (a big version of the Calypso Jr.) have got to be your most sophisticated designs, it is an ergonomic marvel. As soon as it was discontinued I bought a spare, but I lost one and now am down to one. I am almost afraid to carry it.

Sal, please come to your senses and start making it again. I promise I will buy at least two more.

Rick

It's quite unexplainable to me why this model is discontinued. IMO, this little knife surpassed his peers with a generation or two.
Now, if I may dream, maybe will come back to production in an updated version, G-10 scales and compression lock
BTW Celery, the model with AUS-8 blade was made around '98, if I remember well. Only available with Micarta or SS handles those times.

Thank you for the information, It's always nice to know the facts about the knives you own. :)

I own four of these 3 ser and 1 plain (hard to come by). I also wonder why they were discontinued they are a very "all around" knife. The blade is a bit thin though, but i guess its not desinged as a fighter.
