camera question for Shelby

If you had to choose between the following, Fuji S2, Nikon D 100 and The Cannon EOS D60 what would you prefer and why?

Hammer,

Honestly, I don't know yet. I'm still intensly researching certain SLR's and awaiting results. I've never had any experiences with Fuji cameras. Nikon, I've always admired and Canon, I have a few Lenses already so the decision is tough indeed. I've seen very excellent photos from the D60. I haven't seen enough of the D100 yet. I'm gonna wait at least another month to see if there are any bugs that need to be fixed, see the pros and cons list of various cameras and see which list is longer. Perhaps I could better answer your question later on:), Now i'm stuck in the dilemma that best fits your question.

Let us know what you think when you make the final decision, I look forward to reading your findings.

Hammerhead

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking into buying one of the three you named.

I use Canon at work, but really like Nikon. The Fuji is built on a Nikon body and uses all the Nikon lens'.

Here is an interesting bit on the two cameras.

I'm leaning toward the Fuji at this point, but like Shely, I'm still waiting to see exactly what's up. My E10 is ticking right along at this point, no hurry. (Plus it gives me time to pick up some Nikon Lens') :D

I already have Canon so Canon digital it will be but I am waiting to see what they are going to do with the EOS-1D. While cost is a major factor there were some rumors that they might revamp the big gun to a larger CCD or maybe CMOS. To the actual 35mm size. Features and capability play an even bigger role for me. So I continue to wait...for now I am sticking with 35mm.

The final review of the D100 is up at dpreview. Based on what I see there, I think I favor the D60. Both are excellent but I slightly prefer the D60 images. Either one would be great though.
I was in a local camera shop yesterday and they have gotten 13 D100's so far, all pre-ordered. They have not yet been able to get any D60's, even though they've been available longer. Don't know why that would be.

Harry,
Also take into consideration lenses. With a camera like Shelby's Sony707 the lens is intergrated and can do quite amazing things(as we can all atest to). For the Canon D60 you need to get different lenses for different things. Just a thought before you buy, but some lenses cost as much as the body. Of course it depends on what you are going to do with the camera too.

Yes, the lenses were different and that obviously makes a difference.Although I think a variety of lenses were used with both cameras.
There is still something very appealing to me about a digital camera with a good integrated lense. I used to be into photography much more than I am now, and used an F3 with quite a few lenses. But I gradually lost interest in carrying around all that equipment. Now I think that a camera like the F707 and (hopefully) its replacement are not too far behind the DSLR's in terms of image quality. I'm not sure what I'll do yet.

I got some info from a friend of a friend of a friend. He says to wait for the next gen. SLRs to come out. about 8 months ahead. I think i'll do that. In the meantime, I'll be sticking to my Se7en and back intensly to 35mm film.

Yo Shelb - you see the Minotla Dimage 7i yet? What do you think?

And for those interested, another confirmation that the 707 replacement will be out soon. According to a Sony dealer I spoke to today, the F707 replacement should be in stores in September or October. This dealer had 707's on the shelf, so he wasn't just saying that because he didn't have anything to sell me.

Spark,

A friend of mine just got it. I was at by his place last week and played with it all day. The resulting image quality went beyonf my expectations. It's a nice camera. Macro is pretty good but I will have to zoom in slightly to get it closer for those who do serious macro. The shutter control is awesome. from Bulb to 1/4000 is something that's missing on my camera and usually found on more expensive digitals. Also saves files in RAW mode. Although a very good camera, I don't really like it mostly because of cosmetic reasons. But that doesn't stop most people.:)
