I have a Cannon SD1300 IS and cannot get any descent close ups of knives. Do any of you have or know of a point and shoot camera that can achieve this? I read thru the photo thread, but one, it's way over my head, and two the cameras are...over my head. Just hoping for a point and shoot. Thanks for any guidance.

Does your camera have an automatic setting for macro? Often times the symbol is a flower?

A set of close up filters (they screw on the lens) will allow a range of macro from +1 tp +10.

It does, thanks

Page 67 of your owners manual explains how to shoot Macro mode (closeups). Choose the icon that looks like a tulip and then press FUNC/QUOTE]

Thank you for that, playing with it now

Thank you l will check that out

If you are still having issues getting a nice closeup in macro mode you can check out what they call "ILS" cameras. ILS stands for interchangeable lens system. They are in between point and shoot and dslr cameras. They take amazing photos like a DSLR but with point and shoot ease of use. Also you can get different lenses for them. Sony makes one of the best lines of ILS cameras called NEX, check them out if you're still not getting the results you want

And lighting is as important if not more so than the camera.

yep lighting is key cause with good lighing you can get good shots even with a cellphone all that said P&S with even slight user controle in a light box should be fine less under 10mp (i say this due to your macro wants ) crop zoom is no issue for most as long as you are over 10mp camera
