Can anyone recommend a rugged out-doors type camera for less than $300.00
I have very Little knowledge of cameras. My last good camera was a 35m. I managed to put my thumb through the shutters of it when I was hurriedly thing to reload to get pics of a mountain lion.:( The cheap digital that I have been getting by with fell off my anvil in to the quench bucket:grumpy: I thought I snatched it out in time but I managed to drop it again and steep on it..
So I'm looking for a inexpensive digital that is blacksmith proof, if not gorilla proof.

I was going to recomend the Fuji Finepix S2000HD, but after reading your requirements, i wont.

sounds like you need a waterproof digital can, fairly simple. Maybe a PENTAX Optio W60

I know the fly fisherman use it a lot and its dustproof, waterproof and pretty durable. and cheap

Panasonic Lumix/ FX series cameras. I use an FX10 and the thing is quite tough. Its one of the only pocket type digitals that I've found that has a metal housing that is screwed together. Its been dropped a couple times and it has some character marks but its still working fine.

Given your requirements (limitations?), how about this?

I'm using a Canon Powershot S 5 I S. Within your price range with some very good features.
- 8MP
- 12x optical zoom
- Continuous photo (hold shutter button and camera takes shot after shot)
- Macro and Super Macro (Excellent! super macro!)
- Works off 4 AA batteries
- Uses SD card
- Comes with USB cables

I liek it pretty good

Olympus Stylus. There are several models all rugged and at different price specs. Check them out. Dont forget to post what you arrive at!

olympus stylus 1030-1050 series...

the 1050sw is shock proof up to 5 feet (means you can drop it from a height of five feet onto hard ground), water proof up to 10 feet (you can take pics with it up to 10 feet of water), freeze proof, and has a load of other features.

it is priced at

the 1030sw is shock proof up to 6.6 feet, water proof up to 33 feet, freeze proof, crush proof up to 220lbs and also has many extra features.

bestbuy.com prices the 1030 at 349.99 and it doesnt look like they carry the 1050 model (we have it in canada).

you can shop around and probably find a better price and check out other retailers.

i have the olympus stylus 720 which is water resistant and have had no problems using it in rain or on the coast.

good luck with the camera hunt
