I have an old Camillius Hawksbill/Sheepsfoot knife I just bought for $10.00 at a flea market. It's very old and extremely well used the wooden scale on the left is worn down quite a bit and I'm sure this knife was used by a worker for many years. This is perfect for my collection and I am having one heck of a time getting it open. It's a liner lock I believe and something seems to be holding the blade from opening, am I missing something. It opened very hard when I bought it but now no matter what I do nothing seems to work. Any help would be great

Two things to think about: first - does it have steel liners, and maybe it's rusted shut? And second, make sure the liner-lock isn't somehow wedged between the blade and liner; I've got one somewhere here that's like that. I finally stopped bothering with it.

If it's not the liner, drop some mineral oil, 3-in-1 oil, or Wd-40 into the joint and leave it for a day. Repeat this over several days, then gently work the blade open, if you can, but don't force it. Sooner or later you should be able to open it, and it should loosen up considerably.

Got a picture you can post up?

I bought an old girl scout knife at an antique store like that. I filled up a glass jar with mineral oil and let the entire knife sit in it for a few days. After that the blade/tools opened and I used a toothbrush to clean out the inside.
