Camillus CUDA MAXX 5.5

I like the customs better, but for the money you can't beat the CUDA Maxx! Probably one of the most well done factory made custom designs.

What Steven said. I consider the Maxx to be one of the best buys in production knives. It's one of the few knives I bought just because it was too cool not to have, and it's one of the very few production knives left in my modest little collection.

First, let me just agree with everyone else that the Maxx is one of, if not the strongest-locking production knives ever made. I own one of Darrel's custom versions, along with two of the Camillus models, and there is very little difference beyond the level of detail applied to the finish. You can buy a Camillus Maxx with confidence.

Is it easy to flick the blade open with or without the flippers?
Can you also use the flipper as a "wave" action to open it from your pocket (assuming the pocket clip is modified for tip up carry).

I had mine modified for tip-up carry and they did "wave" open on the guards just like a real Emerson. Which is why they can't be shipped from Camillus like that...

As for flicking open... The thumbstuds are basically bladestops and are not very practical to use, but various intertial opening methods work very well. That big blade provides a lot of mass for maneuvers like the Brownie Pop to work on. I eventually switched my clips back to tip-down carry, because I found I could present them faster from that side using a pop than from the other direction using the flipper.

I would think it is stronger than my BM 710 .. well anyways it is strong enough to give me that warm fuzzy feeling on the inside :D

Hope this helps,

I have a CUDA MAX 5.5 and an AFTERMATH and they both lock up solid as a drum with no play what so ever!

If Camillus puts it out you can be assured it has been well tested....they just don't want to put out junk to their customers!
