Well folks, today my pointy christmas things came in the mail, and I couldn't help but fondle a couple while my parents weren't lookin' :)

One of these was a Camillus EDC in 154CM, when I first opened the box I was like "whoa, this knife is smaller than I thought", so I pick it up, flicked it open, tried handling it a bit, OH MY GOD! For a knife so small it couldn't feel more pefect, thin and light, but thick enough for my significantly largish hands, and the balance was PERFECT - I fear there may be a talonite version in my future...

Dammit, dammit, dammit. Will you bastids stop saying crap like this?

I'm trying to keep my list small, but posts like this take those "on the fence" knives and place them strictly in the "must buy" category.

To hell with you. All of you.

And thanks for verifying my suspicions of this knife ;)

A must have is a good way to think about the EDC. It is a great edc :)

It's good in a bad way. I spend 50 more bucks, I might as well leave my pajamas next to the couch.

Youngcutter,
Thx for the comments. I ordered my EDC in 154-CM and eagerly await its arrival. It looks small, so it good to hear it feels right in large type hands. If it works out...count me in for Talonite!
Cheers,
Gord.

YC, I'm really glad you like your EDC, I love mine as well.

What I don't understand is, "a knife so small" the blade measures 2 7/8". just how big did you think it was going to be? How big do you think an Every Day Carry pocket knife should be? What are you cutting that you need a bigger blade than that? The knife was designed by Darrel Ralph and nobody is going to call DDR dainty. He designed it to fit the hand for various ways to hold the knife for cutting and he did a beautiful job. What else were you looking for?

Maybe it's a matter of perspective because my EDC before my CUDA/EDC was a Spyderco/ Michael Walker Lt/Wt, and the cutting edge was a half inch smaller than the EDC. I never felt that was too small, it's a very handy knife. Even my Kershaw/Chive could handle 90% of what I need to cut in an average day.

What are you guys doing, going out to skin Wooley Mamoths?

EDC's an awesome design. Great blade shape.

That's nice, but your Kershaw Chive probably wouldn't survive my average day.
Perspective?

btw, I do believe the EDC was designed with a 3.6" blade:p

I bought the EDC in 154CM when they first came out. It is an excellent little knife. However it lost out to my Spyderco Calypso Jr. LWT. because the Spyderco fits my hands much better.

I've had the 154CM version and really like it. Just got my Talonite version yesterday. Mostly I think I'm curious about Talonite, and this is my first experience with it.

The knife design is, IMHO, excellent for exactly what it is: EDC.

I'm going to try to learn as much as I can about this new high-tech metal and play around with it. I'll toss my comments out there when I have a little more time to play with my new toy.

I just got done splitting wood for the fire with my EDC, by banging on the blade with a small log. Yeah, I know it's considered abuse, but the EDC stood up fine, aside from the loosening of the pivot screw (which is quickly remedied). The blade is still shaving sharp.
The only thing I don't like about the EDC is the thumb stud - it's too far away from the tang for me to get my thumb comfortably under it, plus it gets in the way when you're splitting wood (or other things). My solution was simply to remove the thumb stud. I can actually open the EDC better that way, by pinching the blade between my thumb and middle finger.

Eh, whatever works, I found the thumbstuds to have excellent placement for me... I also like the clip, it seems very strong.

As to comments about the EDC being big enough, this is probably true, but i'm simply more accustomed to larger knives... most of the folders I grew up around were closer in size to my Outdoor Edge Magna then anything else I've got, and I still consider my Kershaw Blackout a tad "smallish", but the EDC, through some miracle of ergonomics and engineering, manages to complement my hands very well.
However to balance things one of my other christmas knives is a Spydie Chinook :)

P.S. Also got a 420HC ARCLITE, seems a very robust knife for $20, I now feel confident that I want the D2 version.

I'll agree it's a great knife. I had my doubts about it, but decided to order one for my son for Christmas. It will replace a CRKT small KFF. He uses it on scout campouts and such, and the thing just refuses to keep an edge. Anyway, I ordered the D2 version from A.G. Russell. When it arrived, I decided to carry it around for a week or so, just to check it out. Well, I ended up ordering another for the boy, because this one's a keeper. The D2 keeps an extremely sharp edge. It was fairly sharp out of the box, but after a few strokes on the Sharpmaker and a couple swipes on a loaded strop, it came out with the sharpest edge I've ever been able to put on a knife, and has managed to keep it extremely well. The fit and finish is excellent, and the action and lockup are fantastic. Great bang for the buck, too.

Now if Kershaw would come out with a D2 Boa...

The only thing I don't like about the EDC is the thumb stud - it's too far away from the tang for me to get my thumb comfortably under it,

This is operator error, IMO.

Thumb studs on knives are not meant to be used to open a blade in an arc-like fashion.

To peoperly open a thumb stud equipped folder.

1)Place your thumb on the top of the stud.
2)Push thumstud -forward-, as if you were trying to push the blade out of the front of the knife.

This was actually gleaned from a Gerber Folding Applegate operation manual years ago.

Most folks have a hard time opening thumb-stud equipped knives at first.

I can flick the ED faster than almost anything else I own using this method and I have sausage fingers.

Gotta get me one of them AGR issued models in D2, though. I keep forgetting about it so thanks for reminding me again, guys! Great design in any size, I think.

I see I just missed you:p
Whatcha gonna do with that little thang??
Just kidding, those are gorgeous (yours and Dexter's both!).
CF EDC's my favorite folder. Mine's the proper length, though:p

Have to give credit where it's due. Ever since this knife came out, people have been raving about it. Don't have one personally, but might just have to pick one up to see why everyone is so pleased :)
