They are finally posted on the Camillus forum, but I cannot move them over here. Also, absolutely no info was given about them. I hope Phil and Larry can bring us up to date on these five knives. Please?

Thanks Larry. Am I the only one that finds it curious that when a guy with a handle of "Codger" looks for info on a "Gran'pa", it is found on a site hosted by a company "C.R.S."?

Also I find it curious that they list on all the knives "Details Coming". It sure seems like a slow rollout for a new product line. I guess I need to join the Camillus collector's club to get the inside scoop on new products.

With the age bracket of most of this forums viewers and with a company name of CRS, they have no fear in telling us that details will be coming shortly. Whom will know to argue. :-0

Cheryl (CRSpecialties) seems to be quite a cool lady....she posts sometimes on the Camillus Forum. I bet if you left her a message through the site's email (can a site own/possess it's email? Whatever) she will help as much as possible to ease your curiosity...or whip it into an unbridled frenzy..... :D

The attached picture shows just how close the 2 knives are in size and shape. Almost exact. The major differences are slight. The Camillus handle is a squarer with little rounding to the edges and the finish grind on the blade is not as polished. The other difference is the shape of the Choil. The OT is rounder with polished edges that are less likely to dig into your finger in heavy use.
Both high carbon blades are hair popping sharp with the grind on the Camillus edge a bit rougher.
Since a new OT won't be available much longer or those that are will not be affordable as a user, the Camillus sure is one good knife for its replacement.
IMHO of course

Thanks, Larry. Nice of you to come thru as the Camillus Factory guys seem to have no interest... Oh, heck, I won't get started again.

Good job, Larry, good report.

Phil

Nothing personal, Rick. I do thank you for all you have added to the Camillus forum. There can be so such thing in today's knife market as too much involvement by you 'factory guys' in dealing with the public.

Maybe I expect too much, and I know you probably have a full time job in the factory as it is. But it was a forum member here who has supplied the best photo to date of your company's product. Another forum member was asking me, of all people- what I could offer as far as info. Where is the 'sell' from Camillus? Where are the professionally taken photos that show every detail? Or what would have impressed me even more, where was the pic anyone in your company could have gone down to the factory floor and snapped?

Please take my criticism here in the spirit I am venting it in: We've all just seen a great American Knive company go down. We read where Buck is taking a huge step to move to cheaper locale, and are importing knives from the Orient to fill certain price points. I note Boker has a new 'Magnum' lineup of China made knives to help out their bottom line. It is crunch time for American manufacturers.

I made a similar rant here a couple of years ago... when Tim Faust suddenly left us. What was the deal with that, I wondered? Giving up an oppurtunity to communicate with the most free-spending bunch of knife nuts one could find.

OK, I have finally let it all out. No more cheap shots I promise. And I did note your new years resolution to spend more time here, and you sure have.
I do thank you for all the particpation, most sincerely.
Phil

No problem, Phil. Everything you say is right on. It is my understanding that knives have been sent for pics and will soon be on our website. Admittedly, our site is severely outdated. Hopefully, to be corrected soon. Thanks for the interest.
Speaking for everyone inside the walls here at Camillus, we certainly don't want to take (or be forced) down the same road as Schrade.

Rick

Thanks for the interest Rick. I think Camillus has a very real chance of picking up a substantial market share from the void left by the Schrade demise. Camillus had been mentioned many times as a hopeful prospect for acquiring the Schrade I.P., and continuing some of the better selling traditional patterns. The five knives we have seen so far, while vague in description and presentation, seem to indicate that Camillus recognizes that fact.

I, for one, would like to see you produce a few more of the historical fixed blades. Quite a few are old enough that their design patents have long expired. And also hope you avoid the temptation of entering the Mart market. History will show us how much of a role this played in Schrade's downfall, but my guess is that it was substantial.

I will be looking forward to seeing some good photos and details of the Granpa series.
