I recently purchased a Camillus 5733M Pilot Survival Knife, a 5684MK Marine Combat Knife, and a 714Y Yello-Jaket. All three knives arrived dull.

I made attempts to sharpen the 5733M and 5684MK.

The Pilot Survial Knife was beveled on only one side of the blade. Is this supposed to be the case? Either way, the angle of the bevel was large enough so that I couldn't produce a cutting edge without resorting to making the bevel steeper. This still didn't produce a very good edge, so I suppose I will need to make a bevel on the other side of the blade.

The Marine Combat Knife has a nice 20 degree bevel on one side, but the other side varied between 20 degrees and some angle much larger than 20 degrees. This will take a lot of work to even out and still have a straight edge (I have already done some work on this).

The bevels on both blades of the Camillus 714Y Yellow-Jaket just don't seem to meet. I haven't made an attempt to sharpen this knife.

Should it be this hard to get good edges on these knives? I was expecting them to arrive pre-sharpened. Was I just unlucky and received some duds?
