Camillus OVB Fisk Bowie: User or Investment Piece

Which would I rather have? Neither. I'd rather have a Camillus Fisk, a Schuyler Lovestrand Fighter and a Kit Carson M16 than one Real Fisk. Would I love to have a real Fisk. Sure, but there are lots of other stuff I want too. If I was worrying about return on investment I would never buy a knife. That money would be in my IRA. I buy what I like.

I'm in Dexter's camp. I buy knives to use and over the years that's included pricey custom knives. Numbered among them were the very first editions of a particular model / blade material combination (e.g. first Talonite knives ever made by both Simonich and Rinaldi).

If I were looking to make an investment, I can think of a lot more secure vehicles other than knives to put my hard earned monies into.

I've pre-ordered a Camillus OVB Fisk bowie and have every intention of taking it afield as well.
It should prove to be an excellent camp blade augmenting a shorter fixed blade I always pack.

Personally, I would love to own a Fisk Bowie, but was only able to afford to order a sendero from Jerry. I am going to be getting it with a cable blade and sheep's horn handle so I think it will be pretty special.

As far as this Camillus/Fisk Bowie is concerned, it is to me a real beauty and possibly, once again to me, the nicest factory Bowie I have ever seen. For that reason alone there is a good chance that I will be getting one. I might just wait and see if what they are going to come up with for different handle materials though.

In the early 70's Bob Loveless was only about a year behind in his orders not seven. Not that this has anything to do with the topic being discussed.

The fact that some might think that these collaboration knives will never have value as collector knives does not make it so. It is their opinion and nothing more than that.

KWM, did you personally talk with Bob in the early 70's? I did. He was backordered 7 years, even makers such as Corbit Sigman had 2-3 year delivery times, not that this is germain to the main discussion. Do own a Loveless knife(not a Loveless Design)? I do.
Folk's, I never said to consider the Fisk Bowie as an investment, apparently there are some that do not seperate collecting from investing. I do not collect for investment sake and try to use my knives when I can. My first purpose was to point out, that if YOU REALLY WANT a Fisk knife, you can obtain one, either by waiting thru Fisk or on the aftermarket at what looks to me to be a reasonable price for the "Gun Browning Bowie". My second purpose was to point out that a person's name on a knife does not guarantee collectablity. I have a feeling that after the intial market is saturated, the Cammilius knife will show up at a substantial discount, I may be wrong. It also irks me that at knife or gun show when I look at a factory authorised knife, that the seller REALLY thinks this knife is a collectable and as desirable as the real thing. If I hear the phrase "THEY ONLY MADE XXX NUMBER" one more time!!!! Thanks for the good replies. Again, I am not trying to flame or discourage anyone, only stating my views after 30+ years of collecting custom knives and firearms.- Dick
