When I first read this thread I thought stacked leather would be the cat's ass for a Tweener. Then I remembered the full-sized KaBar I carried in the Army, and it dawned on me how good the modern micarta or even the Zytel is compared to the ancient leather.

I guess that's why there are so many different handle materials. I happen to love stacked leather and I'm pretty disappointed with Zytel. Different strokes...

you know Mack - horizontally stacked leather makes a pretty decent gripping surface.
glue up 3 or 4 layers, carve them to shape, soak them in obenauf's or sno-seal...

Interesting thought. I have a pretty big chunk of Moose leather that just might fill the bill at home...

I appreciate it. I never know when I'll be home long enough to do it though. I think this may be a case where Moose will work well though.

Thanks for the pictures of the BK17 with a Pilot's Survival knife. I had three knives when I was a kid -- a bowie, a kabar, and a PSK. I knew the BK17 was appealing to me when I saw. Now I know why; its like an old girlfriend with a great new makeover.

I recently sold off my BK2, just wasn't right for me, and I'm awaiting the arrival of a BK17. I'm really optimistic that it is the Becker for me.

I agree, the Camillus survival knife is the better. I love this size knife, and the 17 will probably be my next Becker purchase. To me the survival knife, BK17 and SOG seal pup are the perfect working size.
