I heard this morning that the plant is closed for two weeks for lack of work, and that the company may be sold to Ontario Knife Co.
Has anyone else heard this?

Whether or not the plant is closing, I find it hard to believe that it's because there's a lack of work.
and that the company may be sold to Ontario Knife Co.
That's good news, at least relatively.

I hate rumors.... I can't understand why it is so hard to get facts. I agree there is no lack of work as dealers are waiting for backorders.
Time will tell.

There doesn't seem to be anything in the news about it.

Where did you hear this? (If you care to say...)

Nice first post. Could this be a disgruntled ex-Camillus employee?

The factory IS closed for 2 weeks.

Insiders believe it has more to do with burning up vacation days owed to the employees than work available.

The rumor on Ontario is just that, a rumor. If it turns out to be true, I would guess that Ontario would be buying the Brands, Tradenames & Intellectual Property, not the factory to continue operations.

Time will tell.........

Rumor, with a big dose of wishful thinking, as far as them actually buying the production facilities.

I was actually in the Ontario Knife Outlet Store a couple of weeks ago (a brief respite from a trip to Buffalo), and asked the guy at Ontario that very question. I suppose it seems like a natural fit to me, mostly because of the geographical proximity, similar product lines (plenty of reasonably priced fixed blades), etc. He seemed to be unaware of that, and may very well have been, but he did tell me that the National Sales Manager for Camillus had just been hired at Ontario Knives. Make of that what you will.

The Sales Manager as been there for about 5 months or more. This is not rumor its fact.

PS He's a great guy to deal with. He'll do well for Ontario Knife Co.

Hey guys! I'm principally a Schrade U.S.A. collector; but, I have quite a few of the Western rubber grip hunting knives. I've always thought they were a great deal for the money, razor sharp out of the box, and had great ergonomics for waht they are. I have been buying some of the Camillus Grandpa GP152 (like the old Schrade Old Timer 152 Sharpfinger). They are the only carbon steel U.S.A. made Sharpfinger version still out there in new production. Do you think this knife will continue to be produced as a 1095 carbon steel U.S.A. made knive or should I start stocking up on them? I might be a little off subject on this; but, the plant closing and sale rumor triggered this question. I have called Camillus about the future production of this knife; but, I couldn't really get a straight answer.

check your spelling one and all and go to some previous threads to get the answer to this question. But I will cheat and say "reporter".
