I didn't know Buck contracted out to Schrade and Camillus when I was growing up. It said Buck. I knew they were stainless and sharp and my dad carried one (305) so I had to have one (309). Were people big on steel back then? How many types were there? Mine could split a bolt in half with a hammer if needed. Never tried.
In the 70s I bought a 110, 301, 501, 118, and 119. At the time I didn’t pay any attention to the alloy used, but I did note that the knives from Buck came with higher Rc blades than other brands. I don’t recall noticing a significant difference between the Camillus made 301 and the other models that were made by Buck.
