Camillus the Great!

rhino,
that stockman is a hair under 4" long. There is a ruler along the right side of the picture at the start of the thread. You may need to scroll over.

I posted this in "another" forum, but wanted to share it in the folksy place, so as many collectors as possible get to ogle it!
"God Is In The Details.
This statement is in no way blasphemous, but recognizes the extra human effort needed to create beauty. The ability to do so is a divine gift to humanity. We can never be perfect, but we can sure try.
This pen knife was spotted and captured by knifeaholic, and I am grateful to him for parting with it.
I've looked at a lot of old knives, and hope to look at many more. I've come to appreciate the patina that represents a careful history, and the beauty that shows through from initial good quality.
This little gem has got it all. The blades snap nicely in all three positions. The knife was carefully sharpened, and not "cleaned" (shudder").
The bone appears hand jigged, testifying to its age, and is carefully fitted and beautiful!
Rattail bolsters, grooved with a round or "rattail" file are proportioned perfectly. The stamps on the tangs are scaled to the blades, instead of being partial or "run-off". The pins are hand-peened; the backspring fit is tight like a custom knife- - it goes on and on!
In an era where bigger knives are king, this little guy represents man's best efforts!!"

In the Camillus Collectors sub-forum there is a "pictorial" dating guide for tang stamps (with some discussion of course)
I would link it but I can't use the search function...

That is a gorgeous old knife and in very good shape. Someone really loved(and loves) that knife. Good words too Charlie. Our creative nature is the best evidence I know of that we didn't come from bog soup.;)

Those are beautiful. Waynorth the half congress is awesome....fantastic bone. I have this circa WWII Camillus. It is a solid and well made knife.

I like that scout knife, s-k! It's got some nice bone handles!
Sunburst, sometimes it's nice to find a thread you've missed. It gives you some reading you can sink your teeth into for a while.

Perfect size... 3 7/16" EZ Opener. Scales are beautiful (and they look like bone), with a bail no less!!

I'm pleased,
Mike
