I’ll try to condense this as much as possible. last night I posted in the Autoknives for sale to pinkmagicK that I was sending a message. Almost instantly I got an email from a Chris Shelman claiming to be him. And my offer was good if I paid f&f (I know, I was weak and off guard after a few ales). I did pay, and even got a blurb from PP of suspicious activity. There were many flags, but the name sounded close to someone I’d done business with before. He was obviously a member or he wouldn’t have been able to contact me, right? So anyway, I’m out $250 and trying to track this little puke down. I’m just posting here so there don’t get taken as well. I don’t need to be ostracized about using PP F&F. Been a member for many years and this is my first bad experience. And I should add that pinkmagicK did nothing wrong and has been very supportive. A good dude. Chris Shelman? Not so much.

The way these scams are working is, they find people claiming knives in sales, then the scammer finds your email address and emails you outside of the forum to get you to pay them instead of the seller. Searching your posts quick, it didn’t take me long to find a sale regarding golf clubs where you posted your email address for a seller to contact you directly,

In your profile posts, you have your phone number listed so it wasn’t hard at all for the scammer to text you.

Good advice, much appreciated. I thought I was on top of things but apparently not. Thanks again.

I am sure you realize this now, but as a gold member there is no reason anyone would be emailing you rather than using the on site PM system.
The word still hasn't reached enough on this scam, and unfortunatly you were one of those.

People see and hear what they want to see and hear, both good and bad. And of course, alcohol doesn't help either. Thankfully it wasn't a MUCH greater loss.

Same scenario just happen to me today, but I did know that the seller wouldn’t be emailing me. Try to keep messages to PM here in the forums should help people from sending to the wrong party. I also confirmed with the original seller here before sending funds to see if he had also emailed me. Always double and triple check folks!

Yeeh, I got scammed last month. I’m now asking all sellers to send me a timestamp picture with the item I’m purchasing. It doesn’t solve the problem 100% but it does help to know that the person actually does have the item in their possession.

John Phillips John Phillips Yours was a different scam. You got taken by a hacked account...the more common one right now is people claiming a knife, then receiving an email with payment information from somebody pretending to be the seller (key word there is pretending). People have been falling for that one left and right.

I’m aware.

I saw that post from a couple years ago where I listed my number and deleted it. But man, it happened SO quick! I didn't see any other personal info, hopefully I got it all. Learn from my mistakes I guess, and don't log on after a visit to the bar. Dulls your senses!

At least you didn't go home with an ugly chick at closing time...

The scammers are definitely putting in the work hawking the exchange and scanning peoples posts and profiles like they are. Beers and the exchange have led to many purchases for me as well lol.

This chits unbelievable. As soon as this crap started happening rampantly I stopped buying and selling here. I know chances of ME being scammed are probably ZILCH. But eff it it isn’t worth it anymore. I’d rather take my cash to the grave than knives.

I've been scammed online too before. I'm sorry this happened. There's certain things I try and look out for nowadays. I was able to pick up on one years ago and luckily kept all the shipping receipts. He was trying to scam me hard. I can't believe there's people out there like that. I was also scammed by a fake Chinese site over some sunglasses I really wanted a few years ago, but it was only $40 or so. Paypal was no help because they sent them a fake shipping receipt. So I guess I'm lucky, only got scammed once in total. It sucks, but it could have been a lot worse. It's just one of those things you have to write off and not let it get to you too much I think. Look out for it in the future and warn people is best for your mental health IMO.

That will definitely ruin your life. Or one with 8,000 fucking tattoos and a body count over 155. And needle marks in random places. RUN!!!

I don't understand why women don't think we pick up on this... Wow...

These email scammers want FF for payment. So... If you sent them $1.00 (one dollar) G&S, wouldn't PayPal automatically give you their shipping address, you know, so you could visit them and tell them how much you like them?.

You don't always get the seller's information for G&S. I've purchased plenty of things from legitimate businesses and I don't get anything other than the company name in the transaction details on the PayPal website.
