Camo/natural vs bright and visible

I read somewhere that khaki is the best color to wear in the wilderness. Especially for an extended period of time. After a few days of wearing, the dirt and stains give a natural camoflage.

Also it is good for all type of cover. The same clothes can be worn in forests, desert or jungle. Just get it dirty.

Anyway, that's what I heard.

Probabaly.. I remember when I first visted my father in arizona, my first thought was : Whoooa, Welcome to Mars

What I meant to say was that opposed to Woodland Camo or Desert or some other specific camo pattern, the khaki will fit in in any terrain.

I would hope that you would change your clothes at least once between N.C. and AZ

FL to AZ =P

and to be honest, when it comes to camo, I don't think I'll use anything other then the new Mil digital.. the standard pattern blends in well ANYWHERE.

Well, not anywhere.. be easy to see the big camo dude in the middle of syberia.

But yes, Khaki does blend well everywhere.. even in the snow.

Agree with the khaki as general purpose "low visibility" clothing and equipment for civilian use.
When choosing, look at the terrain you will be in.

Rule of thumb:
If you can see more dirt than bush - khaki
More bush than dirt- olive drab (OD)

Mil Spec comouflage is outstanding stuff, but really sends the wrong message if you have to interact with strangers.

Khaki and OD workmans clothing is non threatening, effective, and inexpensive.

IIRC khaki is an Urdu word meaning "mud".

I agree with the wrong message thing for camo, but in a true SHTF situation, I don't plan on interacting with others much.

Extra people knowing of you, your knowledge, and your gear = more crap for you.

Staying hidden, and having people not know I''m there is my goal.

Hmm...

I wonder if the government has put out any of those tech books for camo use?

They have books on everything else, why not camo?

I like the idea of blending in with the surroundings mainly because I dont like the hastle of being noticed! :D Human interaction may not be my strongest suit! ;)
