Forged from 52100 high carbon steel
I have heat treated this axe with the same process as I would use on a large chopper knife to Rc 58-60 and with a fine grain structure so that it will hold a good edge. A file will skate on the edge so a stone would be required to sharpen it.
Convex grind, mirror finished on the edge.
The flats have forge scale which I have blackened with a forced patina. This will change as the axe is used creating an interesting patina developing over the years.
Tapered tang
Professionally stabilized spalted maple handle
The length from the top of the head is 9 1/4 inches, head length is 4 1/4 inches and the cutting edge is about 3 3/4 inches
Thickness of the head is 1/4 inch
Weight is 1 pound 4 ounces
Leather edge cover
I have left sharp edges on the back of the head for folks that would use it for fire starting. These could be eased if a buyer requests so.
