52100 high carbon steel, created with some forging and a lot of grinding of 1/4 inch thick stock
Heat treated the same as I do large chopper knives; Rc 58-60 with attention to a fine grain structure. This axe cannot be sharpened with a file like some axes, a stone is necessary.
I forced a patina on the flats which will change as the axe is used. ( a customer commented to me that he only uses the axe in the kitchen like an ulu and said it has taken on a pleasant patina with use)
The edge is mirror finished,
Cutting edge is 3 1/2 inches
Height from the top of the head to the butt is 11 3/4 inches
The black Micarta handle is 6 inches. I finished this with 36 grit for grip
Weight is 1 pound, 9 ounces. I drilled out under the handle and tapered the tang to balance heavy to the head
Leather edge guard
