These are forged from brand new 4140 and hardened in commercial quench oil. After heat treatment, I brushed off the loose scale and gave them a light etch in vinegar to darken them. The three on the longer handles all have heads just under 20 ounces, while the one on the shorter handle has a head 16-17 ounces. The handles were given a light stain and oiled after shaping them.

Ok, got measurements:

The long handled axes (1, 2, and 3) are about 25" long. The blades on #1 and #3 are 3 1/2" wide, and the blade on #2 is 3 1/4" wide.

The short handled ax is about 17" long, with a blade 3 1/4" wide.

How refreshing. I like these a lot. Definitely high time someone started selling some custom alternatives to Wetterlings and Gransfors.

I'll get some money together and hopefully pick one up. This is the best thing I've seen on this forum all year.

CapitalizedLiving - Thank you! Very good to hear. It'd be great to be the American answer to Gransfors Bruks. Except that mine are built with hardwoods in mind, since I come from the land of the mesquite, live oak, post oak, blackjack oak, Osage orange, hackberry, elm, etc.

What kind of wood did you use on #2? I'm on the fence financially but won't be for long...

All of the handles are hickory, substantially re-shaped from a commercial handle. It's been given a light black stain and oiled.
